This thread encouraged me to go check with myfico to see what it is. I'm at 719 right now. Looks like I need to get off my mom's account to raise my score as her debt on one of the credit cards is dragging me down. Basically she put my name on her most used account so that I had my own card(which she pays) in case I really need something.

I found out my mom had me added as an authorized signer and that messed up my score. I had her remove me with the quickness.

45 day period before they fix wrong info ftl

It must vary, I had one removed within a matter of days.

If you dispute by mail, they have 30 days to verify/correct the info. If you do it online, they get 45 days. If it's something quick and simply, then can turn it around in a few days.

Just did some checking on the free annual credit report and found some weird items. Why do I still have some stuff showing up as negative items from 1998 that have been closed/taken care of as listed on the report itself?

Dispute them as "obsolete" and they will be removed in a day or two.

yeah, I think what I'm going to do is let her pay that card off(when she sells her house) which will conveniently raise my score and then get off it.

Let me correct that last bit. It's 45 days if you use a "free annual report" to dispute your info. It's 30 days if you purchase a report, or get one due to a credit denial.

I screwed up in my early 20's with cards and loans I never made payments on. I was just irresponsible and liked to spend more than my means. Anyways...been hovering just shy of 800 for the last few years. It is a nice feeling to go and get a loan and NOT need a co-signer....a feeling of independence if you will.

yea, because they will keep reporting it until you settle it, or at least postpone giving up as long as they can. If you dont settle it, they'll find ways to "renew" your debt and start the 7 year process all over.

Yeah and if you are smart you'll lodge a complaint and they are forced to remove it. Debt falls off ~7 years from the day of the last payment or original chargoff. And the statute of limitations of taking to you to court is 4 years in most states.

The only way for your clock to be reset is if you are naive and listen to the bottom feeders of the debt collection world. They will threaten you with lawsuits, and try to cut you a deal which is still likely way more than your original debt.

I went from 419 to 655 in a little over a year. Soon as my last negative falls off this year I should be in the 750+ range.
