I'm going to be building a new computer in October and I've got an idea of what parts I'd like to get. What do you guys think?

I'm planning on spending just under $2000. If you have any suggestions that'd be great. I'm mainly worried about the ram and the motherboard. There's a lot of talk about P35 and X38 chip sets and Penryn processors and DDR3 ram. I don't really know what's going on with all that stuff, but I'd like this computer to last me a long time, so anything that could help me "futureproof" would be sweet.

Case: Nice. I own it. Don't care for the loud fan noises though. My next upgrade i'm going with the Antech P182, a very quiet and solidly built mid tower.

OS: Good. And the 64-bit version of it is what i'd get.

MB: I'd go with the newer P35 chipset based mobos, specifically, the GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R. Not sure as to the exact performance advantages (if any) over the 680i chipset but i do know this particular Gigabyte board has DDR3 and Penyrn support.

CPU: Good choice. You can also go with a comparably priced Q6600 quad core if you're into multitasking.

GPU: You should be very very pleased.

PSU: Don't know too much about this model. I plan on going with the Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W.

HDs: Fast. I actually was going to go the same route with getting a Raptor and using another drive for main storage, but after seeing several reviews praising the latest fastest 500GB drives i'm planning on just going with a couple of 500GB drives. I need the space!

RAM: Probably a good choice brand. Myself I'm going with the Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) after seeing many solid reviews and knowing that Crucial is one of the best brands you can buy. As for DDR2 800, this speed is certainly the sweet spot.

Optical Drive: My choice exactly

CPU Heatsink: My choice exactly

Thanks for the information, but could you tell me the advantages of the 64 bit version of vista? and tjaisv, since you own the same case, do you know if i can remove the motherboard tray with the Thermalright Ultima-90 on the motherboard? or do i have to install it after i put the motherboard tray back in the case? and is that Gigabyte MB good for overclocking?

EDIT: also i've read that the quad core cpu's are good if you do a lot of rendering or video encoding and stuff like that and the C2Ds are good for gaming, i intend to mainly use this for gaming and office/home stuff, so would it be worth getting the quad core?

Why an operating system that has basically no applications for his use?

Personally i would spend 40 extra bucks and get the Q6600
