Despite Quasmo's trolling, the system you're going to look at would be a perfect buy for your needs. Plus, at that price, you could make some profit if you don't end up liking the OS or the system at all.

OH eat it... I'm an unbiased opinion you ass.

Actually, his post was fairly objective. That one about the macintrash is the one you should be jumping on.

What you need to eat is REALITY. Even with 4GB of ram in the FX55 system it gets owned. Hands down the dual G5 destroys the FX, so what do you think it would do to your 3200? Should I really find a benchmark that shows you? There's no doubt that your Athlon would shut down any G5 with gaming, but with After Effects, Photoshop, WORK... please. Your "unbiased opinion" doesn't mean jack because he's getting a system for $300 (wheras your CPU alone is about half that price) and you base your own performance benchmarks off of a programs LOADING time. :roll:

Meh, the macintrash comment was about as toy as it gets. It's obvious that he doesn't know what he's talking about, whereas Quasmo thinks he does. Whatever, Quasmo thinks I'm ass, despite what the facts say (and will say in other benches), and probably always will.

Oh well.

I say go for it...Minis are a PITA to work on and you cannot upgrade the videocard at all, among other things. You can get upgrades for the G4 later down the road that will give you a faster CPU, more RAM, new/different optical drives, more HDD storage, videocard, soundcards, etc. Why get a mini and get stuck with a Radeon 9200? It's like buying a laptop with all those integrated parts.

At that price you have nothing to lose! :thumbsup:

First off
MAC = Media Access Control address
Mac = Macintosh

Secondly, with what you want to do its easy for everyone to say "get a mini", but $200 is hard to justify when we are talking about a hobby/learning machine here. Pluss you can not work on a Mini with only 256 MB, its just going to dissapoint you with that much, so already that pushes the cost to at least $550, dont forget that it does not come with a keyboard/mouse. See how the "cheap Mini" is getting close to double or more what you had planned on spending. As far as $300 for what your getting, I would take it in a heart beat. For what you wana do you should be VERY happy with that machine.

Ok, so I bought the "Mac" and am using it right now. It seems pretty easy to use, although I had to post on a Mac messageboard in order to figure out how to open the CD drive. I have about 4 applications going without any slowdown.

I'm not basing it JUST off load time... I'm basing it off general performance. When using the computer to do seemingly easy things it seems like its struggling. maybe it doesn't have enough ram in it. All I'm saying is that durring general use of the computer I get alot better responsiveness out of my Athlon 3200 vs G5 dual 2ghz machine. It's not something a benchmark can really tell you. You notice slowdown.
