Those are the hard types to turn around. Especially if they're stubborn like that. If he actually goes out of his way to try and prove that there is no such thing as Jesus and God and purposely turns his back on Them, he's got a one way ticket to hell for sure. Try having rational conversations with him and showing him that most intelligent people believe in God, so we can't all be idiots. Plus, the sheer fact of the world we live in, its beauty, the science of life, and the entire Universe... there IS a Creator.

See, that's what I dislike about you religious people. You're so arrogant, you think what he needs is a little faith when just some friendship and consoling will do.

Remember, Jesus saves, but George Nelson withdraws!

I do not disagree with the idea that friendship and counseling will be useful.

However, you have to understand that because UberDavis is a a Christian and friend, one who obviously cares enough to try and help him, that the first possible idea of help that comes up to his mind is his belief in his christian God.

Also, UberDavis is simply trying to him give him advice, not shoving christian values down his friend's thoat.

What makes you better than the christians who constantly shove "christian values/gospel" down other believer's throats, except that you are shoving "that God don't exist and religion is bs" down other people's thoats?

Your "holier than thou" atheists are obviously not practicing what you preach

Every case is unique. This young man sounds to me as though he's experienced a great deal of pain in his life and he sees no reason or explanation for it - if there were a god, he would be the god of fools and innocents.

In my humble opinion, there's no way you can 'force him' to believe in god. Just be patient, be open-minded, and keep talking to him.

I wasn't going to comment in this thread again but I totally disagree with your thinking. Just because others don't share your beliefs does not mean they are unintelligent or wrong.

you call that a rational conversation? "there IS a creator." (no further explanations are necessary, apparently... just look around, it should be blatantly obvious) "most intelligent people believe in god, so we can't all be idiots". i'm sorry, but why does that mean you can't all be idiots (i'm assuming by "intelligent" you meant "not legally retarded").

you should be looking to help this person cope with his losses, not trying to push your religion onto him.

I am sorry if i am picking on your NightFlyer, but your attitude protrayed in this reply is what makes other beliver/non-believers shun away from the christian belief.

Peaching to non-believer w/ statements such as
If he actually goes out of his way to try and prove that there is no such thing as Jesus and God and purposely turns his back on Them, he's got a one way ticket to hell for sure.
is not the greatest way to reach out to one who blames God for the wrong's of his life.

Before the mid-1600's, most intelligent people believed the earth was flat.

not to any particular post ... but to those atheists who constantly feel the need to shove "there is no such thing as God and religion is for the weak minded" etc. propaganda down other people's thoat .

I understand that not all atheists are like that, but some are.

Just like not all christian feel the need to shove christian values down other people's thoats. But there are some christian who do.

hey, i don't believe in god either. i don't hate god because he probably doesn't exist. but if he did, i'd find him a bit sadistic. lets not get into predestination/free will and all that hokey cr@p. people still die and suffer. how? natural disasters, desease, etc. its not our fault and yet we are forced to suffer. an all powerful all knowing god would have the ability to make a different reality

up against logic, it just breaks down. thats why its called faith eh?

Not necessarily. Everyone follows their own line of logic, and everyone, somehow, eventually finds peace with their own logic.

What makes sense to me may seem totally insane to you, and vice versa.

My mother is a catholic and i have many friends who are of christian believes; they all know that i am an agnostic.
Some have approached me about believing in the christian faith; however, i have politely declined.

None have bothered me since, though they said they have been praying for me.
But i take the act more as of a kind gesture from a friend rather than another christian nuisance.

So they're doing God's work then? Fine. I can understand spreading the word but what about the people who kill (murder) doctors who perform abortions then claim they're doing God's work?

perhaps. logically a "God" would be all good, all knowing, all powerful, all loving. take one away and you just have a very powerful @sshole. logically why would you want to worship a @sshole god? waste of time at the very least. rememer there is a difference between believing in a god, and worshiping him as something wonderful.

priaise the lord......

why? .....

So atheists are wrong because they are not the majority? There are more non-christians on this planet than there are christians, guess that means christians are wrong.

Some of the kids push themselves away from what their parents and environment tries to force onto them, but others just have the ability of reasoning and use that to think about the Bible. Just cause they do not know alternatives and therefor call themselves atheists doesn't mean they are.

(Agnost btw, before you try the anti-atheist whining on me)

you could be a deist and believe in a god that created everything, and just sat back and abstained from further interference.

extremism/fanatics in any shape or form is a terrible thing as we have seen in the in our past history in the holy crusades, nationalism that started world war I, and the current islamic terroist networks.

And it would be unfair to categorize all belivers, may they be bhudists, hindus, muslims, chrisitans, or even atheists, as fantatics/extremists.

Can't be bothered.

But my reply was a reply to this thread in general, just picked yours as closest 'christians are a majority here' when I decided to mingle in this thread. Scrolling back was too much effort.
