Why? I didn't launch any insult your way (unless you're religious), and being careful in these threads is of no use anyway. NARTs are just meant for attacking eachother, as religious people are not interested in facts, and therefor won't change their opinion anyway.

Bah, it's late and I'm headed to bed. This thread will go nowhere because both sides (believers and agnostics) are obviously firm in their beliefs and religion never works well as a debate - too much anger on each side.

Before I sign off I'd like to mention how many people over time have been killed as a result of a difference in or lack of religious beliefs. I can't begin to guess the answer but I know it's a lot and if you want a current example just grab a paper and look at any article on the middle east. It wouldn't take long to find a story about the conflict there. So many muslims and jews killed over religious differences and for what? Faith? Salvation? Victory? IMO, too many have been killed and sacrificed in the name of Gods. I will never understand that logic...

We all have the right to believe what we choose to believe. If your friend chooses to hate God, he has that right. And no-one has the right to shove religion down his throat.

As to the "The IS a Creator! Just look around!". I look around, and I see no evidence of a creator. What I do see is laws of physics and evolution at work. As to the "Most people believe in God, and we can't all be stupid!". In the past, most people also thought that Earth is flat, it's impossible to fly, that Earth is the center of the Universe... Need I go on?

That's a very valid point. His hate actually confirms his belief at least from a psychological standpoint... to some degree.... I would point that out to him.

Personally I've never met an atheist who didn't believe in a higher power... it just depends on ones definition of god.... doesn't it. I find most avowed atheists actually hate organized religion and confuse that with god.

Here's what I think. Your friend DOES believe that there is something out there looking over him. He just has a personality that wants proof of this life form. Unfortunately, until you turn your life to God, you are not going to see the evidence.

I HIGHLY reccomend the book The Question of God: A debate between Sigmund Frued and C.S. Lewis

It debates this exact issue thoroughly, and has lots of arguments from both sides. By the end of the book you should really be able to decide for yourself what you believe.

IMO, reading the Bible is not enough to grab a hold of a person in this day and age. We are a people that need an argument on the issue so we can reflect our own feelings off of it and come to a conclusion.

Usually you will any hear crap from an Atheist if you bring up religion and talk of it as if it is factual truth that should be evident to everyone. Obvious it isn't or it wouldn't be called faith

true. We all have our stories and logical reasoning, but I think athiests drone on proof, fact, etc. If they can't see it- they don't belive it and won't give you the time of day when talking about religion.

And why should they? If I'm feeling down because I lost a family member the last thing I want to hear is some Theist telling me that "God works in Strange ways" Now if I were a Theist maybe that would be acceptable but being an Athiest it seems like you are taking advantage of a bad situation for me to preach and witness yo0ur Religious beliefs. To me that is about as rude as you can get.
