First, a little background. I go to school at OSU and live in a large house with 8 guys, each of us have our own bedroom. There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor, 4 on the second, and 2 on the third. We rarely keep our front door locked due to the fact that someone is almost ALWAYS home. Today, well, Wednesday Jan 7th, I left for class at 12:15pm. 2 of my roomates were in the living room until 1:15. At 1:30, one of my roomate's girlfriends left the house and was confronted by a black man in his mid 30's wearing a dark green coat and light green ski cap. He asked the girl if he could "take our porch furniture." She remained at the house until 1:45 until she left for class. The man still remained in the area and noticed the girl leave. A roomate who lives on the third floor was already home at 1:00pm from class and remained home all night. At 3:00pm, another roomate returned home from class. At 6:00pm I returned home to notice my XBOX and 4 games missing. I at first thought that a roomate was using it in their bedroom. However, noone owned up to borrowing the system. The XBOX was located in the living room and the games were in my bedroom. We later found that my roomate on the second floor was missing 15 DVDs. We filed a police report and found out a man with the same distription had stolen a laptop the night before from an apartment where a few of our friends live. I would like to know if anyone has dealt with a situation like this and what you did. I would like to be proactive and check with pawn shops and other third party retailers to see if any new merchandise is new. However, I do not know about the legal parts of regaining possesion of stolen property. Any suggestions? I've only had the XBOX for 2 weeks and I really want it back. =(
