my monitor wont' turn off

i have it so that my screen saver goes on after one minutes and my monitor turns off in 15. but for some strange reason, my monitor will not turn off. windows will not turn it off for me. why is this? i have windows xp by the way. my rig is a xp1700 with a soyo dragon plus. thanks

Do you mean blanking the screen as part of power saving or putting your monitor to lower power sleep modes?
If the monitor is not Green and PlugnPlay compatible, all you may get is the screen saver working, so eventually the PC can go into sleep but the monitor is not sleeping because the monitor is not capable.

If your monitor is green/plug'nplay compatible and you use APM, change settings in your BIOS and in the control panel to match.
If you use ACPI, change settings in your OS (Control Panel>Power>harddisk/monitor/pc).

i am trying to turn off my monitor via the power management within windows xp. i have it set to turn off at 15 minutes, but it won't turn off. also, my computer will not go on standby nor will it hibernate. my monitor is plug and play. also, what's acpi?
