Unfortunatly the 4th core is dead but its showing a lot of overclocking potental. its at 3.7ghz right now at 1.425v, Prime stable. Im having a small problem though, before I started tweaking with nb/ht/memory/ and some other settings at was stable at 3.8ghz 1.45v but now it will not even boot at 3.8 even if I feed it 1.5+v. What is most likely to cause this? Im to lazy to start from scratch ^_^.

im starting to think my psu is giving out, im no longer stable at anything over 3.4ghz at any voltage, but if i leave the computer off for 30 min then turn it back on its stable for like 30 min then its back to failing everything. temps never even hit 40c so i know its not that. im running a year old Tt580 watt.

It is water cooled? Because 40C at 3.7/3.8 GHz at 1.45/1.5v at load sure doesn't sound feasible. I wonder if your temps are being reported accurately. And I don't think your PSU is the issue. It is possible that you could be incrementally damaging your CPU from high volts and high heat if the temp reporting is way off. You will continually see a lower and lower successful o/c if this is the case, and blame it on anything that isn't the CPU. I.E. PSU.

This is just a possibility. It could be your PSU, but do you see voltage droops in CPUz or other monitoring software when CPU is under load?

Im using a sythe kama angle cooler. I ment to say 50C(no sleep), I normaly hover around 44C under load. ive seen it spike to around 48 at times. cpu-z is reporting my vcore .25V lower after an hour of idling. it could be why i had to lower my opteron 165 from 2.7ghz to 2.4ghz near the end of its life.

Doesn't OCCT3 output a graph showing CPU voltage during your load test? You could test for spikes and vdroop that way ...

after swapping psus, and running a crap ton of test and researching(mostly on my motherbord) ive determined than the mosfets(that dont have heatsinks) cant take the stress. ill be getting some to slap on there soon, i found a lot of other people with this board running into problems with the wattage im pulling.

well just a little up date, after some added cooling to my mosfets and removing 4gb of ram ive gotten 3.8ghz stabble with 1.45v (1.44 after drop). it was up and running at 1.425 for a while but i fugured the .025 but was worth it to avoid any problems down the line. im getting 43C full load 30C idl. I some how get lucky with every cpu i buy, and other than the 4th core being a dud this one is a deam. I might try for 4ghz sooner or later just to break into 4ghz for the first time.

still have a bit of tweaking to do.

edit: did some tweaking

If I caught this earlier I was going to suggest your motherboard (mosfets, as you have it) probably isn't properly powering the chip. The mosfets and cooling them is a big deal for overclocking with the Phenom IIs. In fact many of the first AMD boards (~$100) for Phenom Is couldn't support the 125W chips because of the mosfets.

I have the same motherboard and noticed that the MOSFETS had no cooling as well. I slapped on some leftover sinks I had from my VF-700 cooler. They seem to be dissipating a good amount of the heat. Depending on how this thing OC's (I haven't done much with it yet), I may have to get some better, or even active cooling. For now though, the passive route seems to be working well.
