What do you think of this system that I plan on building very soon? Open to any suggestions for changes. I originally hoped to spend around 1200, but it looks like it's going to be more like 1400... so suggestions to cut down price would be nice. (Ignore the T's and the X's by the price

= ~$1440

I don't really know about the keyboard, but I heard that the mouse is the best for gaming. And for the RAM I'm pretty sure I want the PQI. I want the good powersupply incase I run SLI in the future, not for sure if I'm going to do it, but the option is nice.

I'll let you in two years after I purchase my Intel Pentium 64 4.3 GHz (extreme edition) 1600 FSB Socket 900 Dual CPU SOYO motherboard with NForce7 Chipset PCI-e 4X, 2 Gigs DDR4 6700 4 Channel RAM 218 pin, and SATA IV 400 GIG 15000RPM Hard Drive and Antec "Real High Power" 840 Watt PSU w/ removable neon cords, Logitech MX5000 Inferred Mouse and Keyboard. And I'll probably get a Dual Core Nvidia Geforce 7800 Ultra Extreme Neo-Platinum DDR8 1Gig 64 bit Graphics card or and ATI Radeon X1000 Platinum Ultra Extreme 1Gig 64 bit Graphics card... Can't decide yet.

Of course I will be running all that on Windows Longhorn 64 bit Edition with Microsoft Media Center OEM. Should be good when 64 Bit Half Life 3 comes out. I can't wait.

It looks like a nice system to me, but you could probably save yourself a wad of cash by going with a non-SLI board if you're noe going to use it. You could also cut back on the power supply- if you're not going to run dual video cards, 520 watts is a lot of overhead.

If you're looking to shave off some cost, I'd go with a 3000+ rather than a 3200+. Save maybe $50.
I think your PS is a bit overkill. Try an Antec 430TRUE (430W). Save maybe $50.

Are you sure you want to spend all the necessary $$$ to get a PCIe video card? Going with a solid AGP card would put you back around $1200.

I'm a junior in high school and I hope this computer will last me through college (with upgrades) until I have a real job and can build a whole new one with whatever is available in 4-5 years. And therefore, PCI-E is pretty much a must for me. I'm almost afraid to NOT go with SLI, I just like the additional options. Thanks for your advice though, I'll consider it a bit more.

Hehe, you ought to not build a computer at all (use the ones in your school's labs), and spend that money on booze and dating.

What about a 13 year old? I just spent $1200 of hard earned money on components, just waiting for that 3500+ Retail Winnie to be in stock .

For 14 year olds there's lawns, various odd jobs.... btw, I don't consider it "blowing" the money, I plan to get plenty of use out of it, and a nice top-of-the line computer is something I've always wanted. Now that I got a job and have worked hard for a while, and saved a lot, I think it'll be nice to see something fun come out of it. After this, very little spending (except the occasional game and upgrade). Got a little off-topic, but just letting you guys know where I'm coming from. BTW, my current setup:
AMD Duron 950
96 MB PC100 RAM edit: silly me, PC100 RAM, not PC133
Geforce 2 MX
....need I say much more?
ANYWAY... any other comments on the system?

I've read it... but I don't know.... I would feel much better going with the tried and true method of just keeping a 1:1. I've thought about getting value RAM, I'll reread that post.

Congrats on working so hard for your new system. =)
I would recommend staying away from SLI and just getting the best Graphics card money can buy and a decent AMD 64 3000 or above and 1 gig of quality Value RAM. That should be good for while.
