first let me start by saying this card is simply amazing. however i have some questions.

1. i had a 7800gt before this and even though i used driver cleaner to unisntall the nvidia drivers i still get a d3d error message when i run certain games (CSS and BF2 mostly). ive reinstalled directx a bunch of times, also i cant figure out how to completely uninstall directx

2. when i go to change video settings the recommended AA and AF settings are lower than the 7800, ex the 7800gt would recommend 4x aa and 8x af my x1950 recommends no aa and trilinear AF in CSS, has anyone else had this?

3. how well is the overclocking on this?

thanks for the help, also if it matter my mobo is an ECS nForce570 slit-a, could the nvidia system drivers effect the ati display drivers?

thanks for the help

if you're getting those problems, it's probably related to your windows, it might be corrupted, a reformat should solve any errors you have. and i usually just ignor those recommendations and turn my settings to max with my x1900xt @ 1680x1050.

i've never had the need to overclock my video card as it doesn't give you any increase in performance other than programs like 3dmark which is useless in real-world play. ocing a video card to its max (with voltage increases etc) would proabbly give you a 3-5fps increase in Counter strike source, COD2 and FEAR. i play all those games at stock speeds and its fine with max settings

I'm a noob with some of the settings since I just upgraded from a 6600gt - where did you find the recommended settings for a particular game with this card (or is it trial and error?).

3-5 fps? OCing my 7950GT to 7900GTX speeds made it run as fast as a 7900GTX in every game. That's a 7-15 fps gain. Approximately.

one way to easily do this is to set up a separate partition on your HD with just the Video card and necessary drivers

also if you are considering another MB -- forget AGP ... go PCIe

I have yet to run a game that requires me to overclock this card, even at max detail settings and AA / AF. However I am stuck with a maximum resolution of of 1776 X 1080 due to my monitor.

Definitely depends on the card. Some cards unlock pixel pipes, can be volt modded, or are clocked low to begin with. Such cards see tangible increases when overclocked properly.

Don't bet on a reformat solving all your problems. I learned a long time ago to always make a Ghost copy of my primary boot partition before I do a clean install. If after your clean install, you still have problems, you can use your Ghost image and restore your previous install. Doing a clean install for every glitch is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Did you uninstall the nvidia drivers before you installed the new card? I would ignore the settings that programs recommend for your card. Also, you cannot completely uninstall DirectX. When you install it, it becomes an integral part of your OS, which makes it impossible to remove without formatting and reinstalling your OS.
