7950GT

8800GTS 320MB

Maybe im just out of the loop. But for only 50 dollars more it seems like a steal.

Though I feel like im about to make the mistake like those people did when they had a Ti4800 GF4 and got a 5700XT.

Considering that the 7950GT is a single slot solution and isn't gigantic and performs on par with the 8800 on some benchmarks it confuses me.

HL2 the 8800 doubles the performance which I like but in OpenGL based games like Quake and FEAR it seems to suffer.

Imo the 7950 GT would be a nice upgrade from a 7800GT... but on the other hand, you will get double the performance over the 7950 if you go with the GTS.

Where is a 7950GT equal to an 8800GTS in benches? Even the 320MB version of the 8800GTS is at least as fast as an X1950XTX in pretty much every benchmark.

Also, I really don't see any point it waiting. The 8800GTS 320 is a good price and I'd say go for it.

Yes, it doesn't perform as good as the 640mb counterpart but it still perform better then the X1950 or the 7900 series.

8800GTS 320mb is superior in terms of stock cooling (removes hot air out of case), about the same size, MUCH better IQ, more features (HDR+AA etc), and much faster especially in pixel shader heavy games like oblivion, FEAR. Its overall way better than the 7950GT period.

Like others said, go with the 320MB GTS. I've got a feeling its on the way out and was simply a placeholder in the market for NV. Once the 8900GT and GS are released it'll probably be hard to find these cards new from e-tailers.

If you're upgrading right now, there's very little reason to buy a 7800+ or X1900+ at this point for $200+. The 320MB GTS is going to spank it in 95% of games and resolutions and it'll run DX10 games down the line.

I think the person who was saying the 7900+ and X1900+ beat the 320MB sometimes was referring to 1920+ resolutions with AA, where RAM was an issue for the 320MB and performance suffered greatly. Still, I'd consider both to be unplayable at that point as there's not much point in splitting hairs between 18fps and 21 fps.

In most cases the GTS320 walks away with double, yet at higher resolutions and dense graphics that eat the memory, the 7950GT 512 wins. Depends on your resolution. For a native 1280x1024 or 16x12 stick with the 8800GTS 320.

Ofcourse, DX10 is another perk to having the 320. For the money and DX9 performance, it will be my next card soon
