My parents just got the news this morning and I just got it little while ago. I just cannot believe it.

She was ~22 yrs old and the only child of my cousin sister. My cousin and her husband are so devastated .. they couldnt even talk with my parents over phone.

she slept last night...woke up at ~5am in the morning, took some 2 deep long breaths and just passed away

I couldn't even believe the news....Its going to be a sad week. I just cannot even imagine talking with my cousin now.

I feel so bad for myself now. When my parents called them last week, she (my niece) so wanted to talk with me (she was so happy for my Green Card approval) but I was busy and told that I would talk with her later.. and now shes gone, forever. :brokenheart:

Sorry for your loss.

I dont know the full details...I just dont have the courage to talk with my cousin. All that I got to know from my parents was that she woke up at ~5am, took a couple of deep long unusual breaths and passed away.

I know that she was not well for the last year....had trouble eating (couldn't digest food) but for the past few months, she was much better and was eating normally since then.

That's horrible. Sorry, and wish that something could make it better, but only time can do that, and even then not completely. The tragedy always feels deeper when someone so young is lost.

Wow, be sure to keep us posted if you hear any news. That's sad...22 is the peak of most peoples' lives.

I could not on any level imagine one of my children passing away before me. My heart goes out to any parent that has lost a child. Unbearable.

Heart failure perhaps? Or a sudden cranial hemorrhage? Very strange death.

Sorry for your loss.

(Not that it is all that important, but I am a little confused as to the decedent's relation to you. Was she your 1st cousin's daughter?)

My heart goes out to you and your family. No one should have to experience that.

Don't beat yourself up. You did not hurt her and there was no way you could have known that would be your last conversation with her. It is unfortunate that the events passed as they did, but you can't go back and you certainly didn't do anything wrong. You are human and you make choices based on the moment, and at that moment you simply assumed you would be able to speak with her another day, just like anyone else would have done. You should try to look at this from a different angle - she apparently didn't suffer and that is worth a whole lot. Instead of regretting the conversation you could have had, remember her life and what it meant to you.

That's a horrible thing to have to deal with...

You should talk to your cousin though, she could use the support.

She probably won't feel much like talking, but just let her know you're there.

That's traggic. It's stories like these that make me want to go to the doctors everyday.

I can only guess she was born with a heart ailment or metabolism disorder.

she was my 1st cousins daughter. My mother and my cousin's mother are real sisters. So, my niece was like a grand-daughter to my parents.

we (me and my niece) practically grew up together (lived in the same city during my school years and they would visit us practically every week). We would fight a lot when kids etc etc.

I am 25, she was 22. Basically, we were very close to each other as a family...i used to treat her more as my sister rather my my niece. Last I saw her was ~9yrs ago and was looking forward to visiting them this year.

I do remember that when young, she used to get sick very often (like flu, fever, cold, cough etc.). Last year, she wasn't well for entire year as she couldnt digest any food. Whenever she would eat something, she would vomit out. She had a lot of exams (all your cat-scans etc. etc. and everything came out normal). Since this year, she was fine though and was a lot better last I talked with her. My parents last talked with her last week and she was normal. My guess would be it was something that the docs couldn't find out or wasnt diagnosed properly. But again, she was the only child of my cousin and at ~22 yrs...I just dont have the words.

Got it - She was your 1st cousin, once removed, and was your mothers 2nd cousin.

Very sorry for your loss. I am going to go home and hug my wife and kids.

She was my neice (my 1st cousin's daughter)...its like this:

My Mother <-> My Mother's Sister [REAL SISTERS]
=== |== ====== |=====
Me <-> My Cousin [1st COUSINS] ---> her daughter passed (so my niece)

or in other words: my Aunt's (mom's sister) Grand-daughter.
