My speakers just gave out

As the topic says, my SUPER basic 5.1 system just gave out on me. I have a spare 2.1 set, but they sound like crud. I was thinking of getting a logitech X-230 2.1 setup until I can save up for a z-5300. Is this a good setup to choose/

Thanks

Is that a good setup to choose?

That's your opinion alone. We don't have your particular budget constraint, nor your willingness to pay for an interim (personally I'd never spend 40% of my budget on an "interim" product when I could just wait and pile the money together for something even better).

In my opinion, I would not do it. Would you? That's the question. Now if you are just looking for people to give you bumps to justify your decision, then hear it from me: don't be afraid to do what you want.

Do you have a use for the 2.1 set after you get a new 5.1 set? If you can give it to a friend/family member or sell it and get back most of your money, then go ahead but otherwise it sounds like you're kind of throwing money away if you have a solution that's working now (although poorly) and want a better set in the near future.

What about getting a decent pair of headphones instead? You could get a great sounding pair for $40-ish and then you could use them afterwards too.

I reconsidered, anmd got the X-530 system. I don't have the room for a Z-5300e system sadly. I decided that 5.1 would be better for me in the long run. They sound great by the way!

I never understood the concept of or 2.5-way with TMM solutions. In practice the lobing effect two midrange drivers pushing the same material is actually quite low, because the vertical lobing is in the zone of the tweeter (and thus multitweeter designs) and not multiwoofers.

However, the X-530 design is definitely interesting, since there is no tweeter. With both acting as full range speakers there definitely would be HF lobing. Nice on Logitech to design a high pass filter for one of the woofers. It is kind of funny to have a 2" tweeter/midrange and a 2" midrange though ^^ (the only funny part is the tweeter doing any midrange work).

I'll never understand audiophi-I mean audio enthusiasts.

How do you not have room for the z-5300 but room for the x-530? It isn't THAT much bigger.

I didn't quite understand the size comment either.

The z-5300e sub is HUGE and it has a 3 inch heatsink on the back. It would be too big to put anywhere near or under my desk. Also, I have heard that the bass is just overpowering. I live in a split level house and the bass gets conducted upstairs SUPER easy. My parents would prefer that I not demolish the house with my sub. The x-530 sub is a whole lot smaller. Were you thinking of the satelite speakrs, when I said huge? Sorry for the confusion.

can't you just turn down the volume???

btw, I'm thinking about getting those same ones [z-5300e] I heard them at CompUSA the other nite and they sounded pretty good

You can turn down the bass, but it is really loud. Just read some of the reviews. I have heard that you can turn down the bass all the way but it is still there.

You'll notice the distortion even with the x-530 sub... it's there on ALL logitech subs. If you don't like the bass, Creative's Inspire series are pretty good (I got a set).
