The are parts that I have that are going to be recycled for this PC:
Antec SLK1650B Case
PQI Turbo 512MB x 2
NEC 3540a
2 80GB SATA WD hard drives in RAID 0

New parts ordered:
eVGA e-Geforce 7800 GT w/ eVGA 133-K8-NF41 motherboard

Parts still needed
I'm still researching what CPU to get. I will either be getting a 3700+ San Diego or a 3200+ Venice, whichever is going to let me overclock higher. I am just beginning to look into this, so if anyone has a preference, please let me know

So how does this system look? I know I'd be better served with 2 GB of RAM, and that is in the future for this rig, probably a couple of months from now. An X-fi may be in the future as well. This is going to be primarily used as a gaming rig, but I will use the muscle to encode some DVD's from time to time. I have a server used for storage so the meager 160GB actually serves me well. I may sell both of the drives though and just get a single 160GB or 200GB drive because the drives do get a little hot now since my case is a little cramped.

Further down the road I'll be upgrading to an Antec or Enermax SLI PSU and toss another 7800 GT into this baby.

I have, and as far as I can tell they are all dual-core. That technology is not quite matured yet. Actually, the code has yet to catch up to the hardware, so I'm waiting on games to make good use of two cores before I go that route, as this is going to be primarily a gaming machine.

They aren't all DC, all the ones with model numbers below 165 are single core.

It is mature

The code hasn't caught up with the hardware yet, but it is starting to. I'd think hard about getting dual core, especially if you do Rip DVDs, the ripping app i use to back my DVDs up is multithreaded, the time it takes went from 3 hours at max quality to 1 hour to rip, recode and burn.

Thanks for that info. I'm now looking at the 144 since that's in the same price range. It seems likely to be able to get that to 2.8 GHz, but a lot of people have been able to get the 3700+ San Diego to that as well. I'm currently looking into which one is the better performer.

Well, re-read my post. For the whole deal to be considered mature, the code has to be there too, which it's not, yet. When it is, I will upgrade my processor. This is mostly going to be a gaming box, not a ripping box. While I may rip the DVD on this machine, the data will likely be sent to another box on my network to do the actual encoding. Encoding time is not a factor for me, Only FPS in games.

I'm gonna share on this thread too, because I am soooo excited!
K, here it is.

CURRENT PARTS:
Silverstone Temjin 5, black
Enermax 550 Watt
2x512MB OCZ PC3500EB
WD Raptor 74GB SATA
40GB Seagate PATA
Phillips 109B 19"
Razer DiamondBack
Logitech z-5300

PARTS ON ORDER:
eVGA 7800 GT
DFI LAN Party Ultra SLI DR Expert
A64 3200+ Venice
Antec SLK3000-B (to make a slow, office computer with the old parts)

I wont be a l33t h4xor when I'm finished, but the 7800's in a 512 MB version are ungodly overpriced, and socket 939 has new chips coming out all the time. I didnt think it was wise to dump 750 bucks on a processor AND a video card right away.
