My video card caught fire

My Chaintech 6600gt I bought in december had flames coming from it. I am so lucky my mb did not fry. Will newegg replace it? Should I get another Chaintech? I am not a hardcore gamer, nor do I overclock anything I was beta testing a football game and the thing caught fire.

i actually heard something similar to your case

it came from one of the forum member

i think the fan of the msi 6600gt blew up

anyway, if you're not a hardcore gamer and you're not too tight on the budget
getting a 6800 gs would be more than enough, spend a little more and you'll net yourself a 7800 gt (250 ar)

The fan got really loud but the burn area seems to be a couple of chips towards the end of the board.

I wish I had a camera. This is my first build and I was saving money for an x2 so everything else has to wait, although I bought this card to replace a refurbed leadtek.

Funny I had the same thing happen to me this past summer. Was yours a dual-dvi version? Because if it is, they had an issue with them but supposedly not the dvi/vga version. I went through two of them because both of them had ICs that exploded when I ran 3dmark. Chaintech tech support was really nice and but it just took them forever to ship a card back out to me. In the end, for my third card, they just went ahead and bought me a BFG 6600GT to replace their 6600GT. I sold the BFG and got an ATI x800xl instead. So far no problems and I hope in the future Chaintech will test their hardware before shipping them out.

Meh...I've been gaming heavily on my Leadtek 6600GT for about 8 months now and it seems fine...then again i installed some more case fans for "extra colling" it idles at 41 degrees.

I put the refurb leadtek 6600tdh back in.

6600GT's run hot due to the clockspeeds. I didn't feel comfortable with retail cooling on mine and I upgraded to a Zalman VF-700 Cu.

Had this happen to a Aureal A3D sound card once. I was sitting with my case open and all the sudden flames literally shot out around the CPU area of the card and I was like whoa.

Comp was on and I was playing Quake, guess it was those demons trying to find a way to this dimension and only the sound card worked

But I quickly shut the computer down, took the card out, replaced it and everything was fine. Still strangest thing I have ever seen a PC do.
