I can just press the first letter of whatever I want to skip to on my keyboard, or I could search... I just don't find myself scrolling through thousands of songs too often.

It is something that I do when I don't know what I want to listen to, or want to just throw random songs into a playlist. I just go through the list and say 'ooh, this is good', something that just sparks when I see the title.

I've never used the spacebar to play\pause. I think my last 5 keyboards have had dedicated media buttons that are bigger and more accessible than the spacebar anyways.

Dude, have you seen a spacebar? How on earth could there be a dedicated media button on anything that is bigger and more accessible than a space bar? It is the single largest key on the whole board, and the easiest to get to. A simple thwack to play/pause the music. I kind of wish that the media keys on my keyboard worked (Apple Aluminum), but the controls on the jump list are a nice compromise.

I admittedly don't use SmartDJ very often, so I'm not familiar with buying music generated from it. I imagine if it generates it in a "Now playing" page, then it's probably a PITA to buy. I don't understand why right clicking on the Now Playing page doesn't offer you the same context menu choices as right clicking anywhere else in the Zune software. Anyway, I usually just buy whatever the best sellers\top 40 are.

Ok, if you go to 'More Album Info' or something like that, you can then get to buy the music, which is easier than on the phone, but it isn't exactly clear like crystal.

I don't know if the playlist text is blurry on the Zune HD, it's pretty high resolution packed onto a tiny screen, it's just that they make the font very faint and it's also very small. Fortunately the new MS Devices chief confirmed a new Zune is on the way just a few days ago. Though I don't think minute detail resolution should be your focus while you're driving.

If I can glance over quickly and clearly read what the next few songs are, that is certainly better than looking over quickly and having to squint or grab the player. At this point I just use my phone, no real difference, but it wouldn't hurt to have a dedicated player again.

my biggest problem with the window's phones is that they are terribly messy to look at. They try and fit too much crap on the main screen, its messy and cluttered. apple and android just look so much simpler and cleaner. i know that wp7 is smoother than android, but why oh why does it have to look like that?

Is it the tiles themselves or the number of tiles? If it's the number of tiles you can remove the ones you don't want showing on the main screen to clean it up some.

IMO the tile system is much cleaner than Androids desktop implementation. It may not be as customizable as Android, but it doesn't get much cleaner or simpler than blue tiles.

Yup, its like Android but all widgets, and they all work well.
Thats basically what I want on my Droid. Widgets to show me all my messages, mail, weather, news, and some basic status stuff like free RAM.
Getting all those widgets running together smoothly is actually kind of a hassle. When I played with an HD7 a while ago most of that stuff was right there and the rest could be added.
And it ran smoothly.
Less time digging into screens and apps, more time spent elsewhere.

If Gates has nous, MS would adapt MS Office to suit either a Nokia phone or a tablet (I guess a tablet would be better for functionality). This would attract people who don't only need tablets for social networking and Web browsing.

It is a bit of both, the tiles are ugly, of course that is personal opinion, but still it just looks cluttered to have all those damn tiles filling the screen. Reducing the amount of tiles might help, but it just doesn't look polished and clean, it fills the whole space, they might be useful for some people.

i have 4 apps a clock and extended controls on the home screen of my phone, which is admittedly probably more stuff than i would have on the home screen of WP7 (if I had one), but it still looks less cluttered than the standard WP7.

I probably won't ever buy a WP7, and I don't mind if people like them. I admit they are smooth based on the little that I used one, but my HTC desire s is great, i can notice a difference in smoothness if i set it next to an IP4 or WP7, but otherwise, that very slight difference isn't enough for me to go with the ugliness of WP7 or the cost of IP4.

HTC Arrive Owner

pros:
- works
- relatively responsive
- nice on-screen keyboard

cons:
- can't connect to ad-hoc networks
- can't connect to hidden networks
- maps implementation sucks
- can't filter out certain contacts (specifically for phone numbers) after gmail import

will think of more later

I think I read that HTC released an app for HTC phones that connects to hidden networks. Not having an HTC I can't verify, though. Check the market.

You're awesome! I practically downloaded every single free HTC app, don't know how I missed that one...

Pretty sure Mango has Office 365 right?
