Naive question

Hi, i am having trouble with one of my graphics cards that no one seems to be able to help with. See my other post, as it is so unusual. and i would like to ask a couple of questions.

1) dose a graphics card have a bios chip on it?

2) can it become currupted if it dose?

3) and finally if it dose and can is it possible to repair it?

3. Possibly. If the transistors are damaged you yourself cant fix it. If the data somehow got corrupted you can reflash.
You would'nt have to touch any of the non-edge surfaces of your card. A current/voltage surge could do the damage.

thanks for getting back sutahz. the transistors shouldn't have any problems with them as i havn't touch them. i'm sure you knew i would ask but how can i refash the bios on a card?

download the bios off the manufacturer website.

Yes, yes, and yes. Repair usually requires another graphics card, so you can get a picture whilst reflashing the bad one.

as you can see, i have a crossfire setup thats not working. is it ok that i use the working one?

just had a thought, should i uninstall any drivers i have installed before trying to reflash the dodgy one. thanks

You may be able to use your good PCI-E card to flash the bad one, I guess worst case scenario you flash the BIOS of the card your using (when flashing you'll probley have 2 options, top and bottom, flash top, then flash bottom). As for the BIOS flashing procedure/utilities. We could spoon feed you, but looking up (google &/or video card mfg website) the information for yourself should give you a sense of accomplishment and you might actually learn more along the way.

most manufactuers dont provide bios updates for video cards. generally speaking if you video card appears to be broken then just RMA it...

Thanks for all your replys guys, i am going to give up on the idea of reflashing it as i can see myself messing up the one good card i have after searching how to do it. and i will rma it which i was going to do untill i tried to get tech support from overclockers. the amount of info they want is well over the top, but i will have to fill out there form or pay out another 250 quid. but again thanks for trying to help.
