Played these as a kid on my dad's computer:
Doom
Mechwarrior (original!)
Myst
7th Hour

Played Counter-Strike 1.5 then HAD TO BUY MY OWN. That's the crack-equivalent for games to me.

Starcraft. I guess I'm young.

It doesn't really make you overly young, but when I read things like this it does make me feel old. My GF doesn't help by calling me an old man and trying to find gray hairs, lol. (I am 30, she is 27)

I remember playing Warcraft 2 (never did play Warcraft), then C&C and thinking how awesome C&C was compared to Warcraft. Starcraft fixed many of the problems from Warcraft 2, but kept the core gameplay. Even so, I still prefered C&C, but SC was very fun too!

I did not care about PC gaming when I got my PC. I wanted it for Word etc.

However my first PC games were: Mechwarrior 2, Mechwarrior 2 Ghost Bear's Legacy and Quake 1.

Progression probably went...

Reader Rabbit
Treasure Mountain/Cove
X-Wing/Chuck Yeagers
Homeworld

Homeworld is what really drew me in. That got me hooked. Such a fantastic game.

PC: X-COM Never was able to beat it my friend brought it over and I couldn't believe how amazing it was. He was way better at it than I was. His discription of the end made me laugh.

Consol: n64 007 Golden Eye.

X-Wing for sure followed by Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I borrowed them from a friend to play on our new Compaq computer and was hooked (happened sometime in the middle of high school). This actually changed the direction I took in selecting a college. Originally I was going pre-med and changed to computer engineering after computer gaming got me hooked on computer technology in general.

Probably a mix of: Jane's AH-64D Longbow, Warcraft, Fighter Ace, and Command & Conquer.

Oh and Diablo would be one aswell.

Probably Ghost Recon when I think about it. There were other games before it, but that one definitely had some staying power.

probably maniac mansion. i had played some of the sierra games before this, and king's quest definitely took up some time, but maniac mansion really drew me in and hooked me on gaming. also around that time leisure suit larry was released, and my dad let me play it. being a newly hormoned teen around that time, it certainly opened me up to the possibilities of computer games!

Wolfenstein deserves an honorable mention as well. It didn't really get me into gaming, but I spent countless hours modding, and interaction with the W3D mod community. I still have a copy of my mod somewhere...

Probably Wolfenstein. Then I later played Resident Evil II. I started kind of late.

My first was that downhill skiing game that (I think) came with Windows 95 or 98? I think it was called Slalom. I always got eaten by the Yeti.

There was also a game that came with my Gateway. G-Police. That game was badass.

Doom.
I got some RPG games before then but could never really get into PC gaming until Doom.

Then Quake came along and I remember I even bought an add-on 3D accelerator card (Voodoo 1) to play it.

Red Alert 1 got me into strategy.
TFC got me into MP.
KoTOR got me into RPG.
