A member of the Kentucky National Guard was killed in Iraq while on a convoy, his mother said Thursday.
Brenda Paronto of Metcalfe County said she was notified by National Guard officials Wednesday evening that her son, Eric Toth, 21, had been killed when his vehicle struck a land mine. Paronto said Toth was a leader of the convoy.
She said her son had been married for a little over two years. Speaking from her home by telephone, Paronto said she did not want to be interviewed.
Late Thursday, Kentucky State Police reported that another guardsman was seriously burned when his vehicle struck a land mine, overturned and caught fire.
