NASA IG Under FBI Investigation for refusal to investigate charges of safety violations

Seems that nearly every Government Agency has a Bush Yes-Man there to keep people and policies in check.

Mr. Cobb was previously Associate Counsel to the President.
In this role, he handled the administration of the White House ethics program under the supervision of the
Counsel to the President and was responsible for administration of the conflict of interest and financial disclosure
clearance processes for candidates for nomination to Senate-confirmed positions.

Prior to joining the Office of the Counsel to the President in January 2001, Mr. Cobb worked for
almost nine years at the United States Office of Government Ethics.

and what's he been up to as the IG for NASA ?

An FBI-led watchdog agency has opened an investigation into multiple complaints accusing NASA
Inspector General Robert W. Cobb of failing to investigate safety violations and retaliating against whistle-blowers.
Most of the complaints were filed by current and former employees of his own office.

Written complaints and supporting documents from at least 16 people have been given to investigators.
They allege that Cobb, appointed by President Bush in 2002, suppressed investigations of wrongdoing within NASA,
and abused and penalized his own investigators when they persisted in raising concerns.

Kudo's to Cobb's staff who had the integrity and courage to come forward. I assume the BushCo machine will seek to try them for treason or something.

The thing I sincerely do not understand is how so many Republicans can be so blind to this overwhelming pattern of dishonesty and corruption.

We've finally seen a long-term effect of the Bush Administration. Cronyism and installing unqualified loyalists to key federal agencies, while slashing budgets and personnel. Katrina's federal response, mine disasters and now safety violations and cover-ups at NASA. And you know what they say about what you can see, it's only the tip of the iceberg, I'm sure the rest of the abuses are being supressed as we speak. This Administration clearly doesn't care very much about the safety of the American Worker.

Hired yes - based on the timeframe, someone within the Bush Sr admin saw some raw potential; then under Clinton he polished his skills effectively to rise through the ranks high enough to become visible for cherry picking. Equal opportunity politician.

Cobb is not the head of NASA, inspector general is more of an auditing position within NASA, it doens't run the actual organization. A scientist would not be a particularly good person for the position.


I have no idea why people are bringing up cronyism here. There's no evidence of it. He worked in the government for over a decade before being appointed to this position, and isn't unqualified.
