Is that the LanParty UT? And are you connecting the cpu fan to the cpu fan header on the mb, or directly to the ps?

Well try this. Connect the cpu fan directly to the ps. I had a bad overheat problem with this mb. CPU temp got up to 65C. Checked it out and the fan was NOT turning at all.

This mb has temp. regulated fan speed fan headers. Supposedly you can set this via the bios, like slow fan under 25C, fast fan over 50C. Well I was at 65C and the fan wasn't turning at all. Don't know if it's a defect in the mb, or something that can be fixed in a later bios revision. In the meantime I'm running the cpu fan directly off the ps.

P.S. Hope this helps.

What is the operating temperature of an AMD64 3200+?

Having temp problems

The possibilities are:

1. Too much or too little thermal grease (but your pics seem to indicate this is not the case)
2. Motherboard diode reading incorrectly
3. Bios error...load (or reload) the latest bios
4. Fan not turning properly
5. Overclocking (intentionally or unintentionally). Reset the bios settings to default and try again
6. Faulty voltage regulator on mobo

So DFI wrote me a reply
Discussions all over the net about high temps reading on most NF3 boards. DFI-street.com/forums has some user reports.

BETA bios download here that has helped. BETA and the information at the top of this link explains it quite pointedly what beta is all about. I run it myself as do many others but BETA it still is. It helps bring the temps to a more believable level but the 60C you see is not uncommon and many run that as it is reading high and an official bios related to this will not be forthcoming until AMD works out what they changed in going to the NewCastle cpu's it seems. So for now this bios I link seems to help but it is by no means official as it has not gone thru certification.

From DFIs site.

Is this tech support?

Hmmm AS5 is not supposed to be really thick. On the contrary it is supposed to be relatively thin. Maybe you got a bad tube of it. Also when the system is running feel the HS... does it feel hot at all or warm or cool? Also if you have a temperature reader (ie front panel temp display) stick the cord into the HS in the slots relatively close to the center (DO NOT PUT UNDER THE HSF AND ON TOP OF CORE!!) Just stick it in one of the slots and tell us the reading.

Good Luck,

When I am saying 'thick' I mean it is viscous. AS5 is very viscous.

When the bios reports 63C the hs is warm but not hot. I placed a temperature sensor from my fan controller way down in between the veins of the hs. I have two cheapo probes on my enermax controller. They are the super thin type with presumably a thermistor on them. I pulled then fins apart and let the probes be under compression between the fins. They are not super tight but are snug. I placed one by the copper section of the zalman, near the cpu core, and another one on the ouuter fins more towards the edge of the chip. Temps are 36.2 35.0C.

Room is fairly cool. At least when you're not wearing pants. j/k

edit

Disabled bios temp protection. Installed Win XP 64 went ok.

Hoping you can assist -

Recently I put together an AMD XP 3200+ (biostarm7ncd ultra) system (I say recently 'cause dirt etc are not yet a factor...)

I have had a tremendous amount of stability issues and am currently thinking that heat may be an issue.

The Nvidia system utility reports general web browsing temps at 43-46 degrees- however anything taxing (3d games, burning cd's, itunes etc) and the temps quickly shoots up to 55-60+ and the PC freezes. It has also froze at lower temps, however this is much less likely.

I also notice that mbm5 reports the temps as 43 / and 50 when the Nvidia util reports 43.. Nv lables this as cpu die temp, whil mbm5 reports 43 as case and 50 as die...

How likely is it that the stability issues are a result of heat? I have reformatted / re-installed windows, run clean boots, read the bios settings many many times.... about ready to throw the thing out the window )

I purchased the system from mwave.com... the cpu / heatsink came pre attached... so I can't comment on the TIM...

Any comments appreciated... Brad
