I remember that at least two people on these forums pre-ordered the Parhelia. Did you guys get yours yet?? How do you like it?

After the benchmarks, I don't think anyone will openly come out and admit that they bought one

If the price would drop to roughly $300 I'd order one.
At it's present price I just can't think it's worth it for me though.

Did I get mine? YOU BET!! I pre-ordered mine when the first rumors about it surfaced, and it finally came and I love it so much that I went ahead and ordered a couple more. Im gonna make ear rings out of 2, cuff links out of 2 more, use one as a pendant, and probably make a jacket for myself with the rest. I'm telling you, you can't go wrong with this card! It makes fabulous ear rings, in jacket form keeps me warm and dry (when its cold and wet outside), the pendant has already gotten me a hot girlfriend, and the remaining one I have I will use to cure cancer. My life is so much better since I got this card. What are you waiting for? Call NOW!!!

I really wonder how much Matrox can cut down the price on the Parhelia...

I mean, if it was anywhere in the $100-200 range, there's a lot of people who would jump aboard who otherwise can't.

Does anyone remember if older Matrox offerings ever dipped into the $400 range?

I think I might have bought my Matrox Mystique 4mb (170mhz ramdac) for $150, but I definitely don't recall spending any more than $200. Somehow I even think it was a bit less than $150.

The G400Max was the most expensive consumer level card Matrox released at around $250. It should be noted that the price of top of the line video cards has actually gone up since then, one of the few fields in computer hardware that has. If you can afford a $1000+ monitor you can certainly afford $400 for a worthy video card to drive it. For people who need the highest quality dual outputs or higher from a single card, $400 is actually a bargain. Matrox sells a dual analog out G200 for $500, and a quad DVI/analog card for $700. For the business world, this card will do very well, even at its current price.

I got my G400 MAX right at it's inception for about $270 shipped. I wish I still had it actually...got about 2 years out of it though, GREAT card.

I can't wait for the 64MB version of the Parhelia to come out...or the 128MB to come down in price. At present, I just can't afford/rationalize any reason to get it. I don't really need it...if the 64MB version was out I would get that in a heartbeat though because I'll need a DVI port for a soon-to-be-purchased LCD.

Personally I mainly want it for PhotoShop work and other 2D graphics editing/creation, all reports I've heard have stated that Matrox's 'GigaColor' has an immediately evident impact.
Icrontic had a nice write-up on the impact of it.
That paired with Matrox's typically stellar 2D image quality make for a very pleasant time.

I'll be interested to see how much GigaColor impacts DVD's, and older games that don't need more then 2bits of alpha.

And finally I can get Matrox 2D, along with solid 3D.
It has the best 3D feature set available, along with en excellent FSAA implementation that looks to provide a minimal performance hit while retaining fantastic visual quality.

Granted, it doesnt hold up to the R8500/GF4 Ti42000 regularly, but it gets close when FSAA is applied.
Of course I could always take a stab at 1600x1200 + FSAA, at that point it seems to over-take the GF4 Ti4600, but I find 1024x768 preferable for 3D.

Still, as much as I'd love to have Matrox calibar 2D and decent gaming, and GigaColor looks to be an extremely pleasant feature... I just can't justify $400.
I wish they would pull out a 64MB board for $300... at that price I'd proably go for it.
