I bought one of these at Fry's a while back...nice little unit. Everything in the description is as they say it is. It's definitely a cut about the $30 gadgets that are usually sold for MP3 players and such; you can put it on any frequency on the FM dial (not just four frequencies down at the bottom), and it delivers a fair bit more power. I actually have mine cranked back a bit from maximum power, and it still delivers a solid signal everywhere I want it.

(Hmm...with two analog audio outputs in my MythTV box, I could set it up to play random MP3s on one of them and feed it into the transmitter. Radio without ads would be a Good Thing. )

So how much did you pay at Fry's. Is this a good price?

(I'm thinking that 300 disk cd player set on I got on clearance at Sears, set on 'shuffle', plus this transmitter is an automated station.

I have one of these (well the older FM25A model)
I got it on EBAY about 3 years ago for about $30. First of all, it is a kit.
If you don't know how to solder, this is not a good item for you.

The wall-wart power supply is crap. I use an old AT-style power supply, and the sound is
much better. I put together a conversion cable using an old Y-splitter from the PC power supply

This is not broadcast quality sound. I hook it up to my sound card, and then listen to sports
broadcasts on the radio the in yard. Using the included little antenna, and setting it up
on top of the desk, I can pick up the signal for maybe 100 yards or so. I am sure I could
increase the range with a better antenna, or setting it up higher, or having the antenna outside
of the house, but it does what I need, so I am happy. Music sounds "flat" like an AM radio,
but I have never investigated if this could be improved.

It has a "test-only" jumper that you can use to increase power beyond what is allowed legally.
The 100 yards mentioned above was in test-only mode.

Frequency is set via a set of DIP switches. You can set it to anything you want, but you have
to disassemble it. I just found a "clear spot" on the FM dial, and it has been there for the entire
time I have had the unit.

A few years ago I bought an FM stereo transmitter kit (need to be able to solder) from Hobbytron. I overvolted it (did this to a laser pointer too), put on a bigger antenna. I can hear it at least 1/2 mile away in my car....of course I'm not recommending you do this or break the law or anything...

gergever: Yes, I also was considering the one from ccrane, but in the end, I couldn't resist the fun of soldering
