I have one of these (well the older FM25A model)
I got it on EBAY about 3 years ago for about $30. First of all, it is a kit.
If you don't know how to solder, this is not a good item for you.
The wall-wart power supply is crap. I use an old AT-style power supply, and the sound is
much better. I put together a conversion cable using an old Y-splitter from the PC power supply
This is not broadcast quality sound. I hook it up to my sound card, and then listen to sports
broadcasts on the radio the in yard. Using the included little antenna, and setting it up
on top of the desk, I can pick up the signal for maybe 100 yards or so. I am sure I could
increase the range with a better antenna, or setting it up higher, or having the antenna outside
of the house, but it does what I need, so I am happy. Music sounds "flat" like an AM radio,
but I have never investigated if this could be improved.
It has a "test-only" jumper that you can use to increase power beyond what is allowed legally.
The 100 yards mentioned above was in test-only mode.
Frequency is set via a set of DIP switches. You can set it to anything you want, but you have
to disassemble it. I just found a "clear spot" on the FM dial, and it has been there for the entire
time I have had the unit.
