NEC 2500A DVD player problems

Just installed my new NEC 2500 A DVD writer.

It reads CDs fine, but it's not reading or playing DVDs correctly.

I got it to play one DVD, but now it won't play anything including the one DVD that did play correctly.

I've uninstalled it and let windows redectect it, but now that isn't working either. I have also, of course, restarted many times.

Windows XP SP 1.I have Nero 6 installed as well as Intervideo WinDVD 5 platinum.

When I try to open the drive from My computer it says:
"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatable with Windows."

Any ideas?

Check to see if your master/slave settings are correct, i have the same dvd writter and its my secondary master and works fine...


you may also want to upgrade your firmware (ripcap unlocker, region free, etc...) HERE (note: drive must be empty)

I set it as a master on its own channel and I still couldn't get it to work. I would double click on the drive and a window would open up with nothing in it...both with a disc in the drive and when there was no disc in the drive.

The Bios recognizes the drive and Windows says there are no problems with it...?


I think I'm going to send it back to Newegg for an exchange.

Any other ideas?

Could this be a software problem?

It plays cds fine, though.

id probly say its the drive... ive read similar problems on dvdrhelp.com


just send it back...

Yeah, I flashed the firmware, and that didn't really work either.

Do you have a link on dvdrhelp where I can read more about those problems?

For some odd reason Nero does not recognise the drive, and I was only trying to make an SVCD (on a CD-R).
Roxio seems to work fine.

I've even installed the newer version of Nero...

Windows XP seems to recognise the burner and I presume installed the necessary driver.

I really like the flexability Nero provide and would like to use it so any ideas you guys might have will be appreciated!
