Here is my situation:
I just bought a western digital 80 gig 7200 rpm hard drive and want to load XP pro on it. My current hard drive already has XP pro on it but I plan to delete it and use 98se which is backed up already on the drive. What I need advice on is do I make the new drive the master or a slave and how will this"dual boot" system work? I like XP but I have noticed a lot of my favorite aps won't run under it.
Also I got a copy of 2k with my daughters pc, would I be better off using it than 98se? byond that does anyone know where I might find a good tutoial on doing what I am talking about? Or even one on installing my WD drive for that matter?
Thanks in advance!

My advice: buy low, sell high.

If you have apps you need to run that won't run on XP then 2000 will not be a good alternative. 2K is a much more robust OS than 98 but its kernel is similar to XP. You will want to run 98 along with either 2K or XP to ensure you can run almost any app made for Windows.

Things are much much simpler if you install Win98 first on the drive on your primary ide controller. Then load XP or 2K afterwards onto the second drive on any other ide connector. Both 2K and XP will find Win98 automatically and setup your dual boot. When you reboot after setup it will ask which OS you want to load. If you do it this way theres really nothing to it. If you do anything in a different order it can be fixed or made to work but you have to start editing boot.ini files and stuff like that.

For a true dual boot you will have to install 98SE in the one drive first then reinstall XP on the other. If you want to install 98 without having to reinstall XP you can probably do a quasi-dual boot through the BIOS (you will have to go into the BIOS and change thje boot sequence each time). XP and 98SE handle dual booting from files on the C drive even when XP lives on the D drive.

Ok so just to be sure here:
Leave 98 where it is and after installing the new drive (slave I would venture to guess) Do a complete install of Xp pro on the new drive. Sounds like something I can do, hell I might even get it right the first or second time.
Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it!
