ChopOMatic, if you just want visual views and not photographic views of the 'cosmos', since you already have a dob (and I am assuming you have a Meade dob); you could very well just add on the
Meade Magellan Computer Controller to your dob. This way you keep the high magnification and resolution of your large 'light bucket', dob and can still automate the pain-in-the-rear task of pointing to an object, all for around $300 (sorry, not upto date with the price on this).
Last I checked, it was a whole kit that you could buy with the controller, motors and the few cables etc. Again, this is only if it a Meade dob. I don't know if this can work (though I think and hope it would) with other/home-made brands. However, I am sure Celestron et al. might also be carrying similar add-ons for their products. Got a 8" Meade dob and having experienced the painstaking task of manuvering the scope for minutes in the freezing cold, I am more than ready for that gizmo! Hope this helps and happy viewing!
