Need a temp monitoring solution

I have a Pentium D 820 processor. I?ve been trying to find some sort of utility to check the temperature of my CPU. I?ve tried TAT, that didn?t work; I?ve tried a few others too. None of them seem to give me any readings on my CPU at all. I?ve heard about temperature probes etc, but I don?t know much about them. Anyone have any recommendations? For either software utilities that might work on my processor, or some sort of hardware I could add or both? I don?t have any free 5.25? drive bays available, but I have a couple of the smaller ones open (3.5? I think). Thanks.

Have you tried CoreTemp? Speedfan *shudder*? Everest? Looked it up in your BIOS after a restart?

I tried CoreTemp, It doesn't support my processor, so it shuts down.

I tried Everest, it does not work with Dell computers apperantly according to it's product page's FAQ.

I tried BIOS after a restart. I checked everywhere in there, I saw absolutely nothing even resembling a temperature on anything. Is there somewhere special I should look in the BIOS? I checked each thing that had to do with the processor and anyhting obvios. Is it in an un-obvios place?

I have not tried speedfan yet (Why the shudder, is it bad?).

I just want to be able to monitor my CPU temp because I recently reseated my heatsink and fan and I want to make sure that everything is ok. and I would just like to keep an eye on it anyway.

What's wrong with speedfan? Works just fine for me..

Speedfan bad? Funny.....it is the most up-to-date monitoring utility you are likely to find. And it's free. Read the included directions for configuring the many options. You need an IQ to figure which temp is which. Other than that, it's a good program.

Try Mobile Meter. It's designed for laptops and it's a small executable, but it works great on my AM2 X2 3600. CoreTemp doesn't work for me either.

Well I tried Mobile Meter. It showed my HDD temp only unfortunately, although I liked how quick and unobtrusive it was to run.

I tried Speedfan 4.32. This is exactly what I was looking for as fars as features go: full of all sorts of cool tools and interesting pieces of info. Unfortunately it doesn't work with my mobo I guess ;.; I used the "Get Config" on the "Info" tab and typed in "Dell". The only Dell mobos it supports (in case anyone looks later in these forums like I've been doing) are:

Inspiron 8800
Latitude C400
Latitude C610
Latitude C810
Latitude CP

And none of these are me I guess. According to CPUZ my mobo is called

Dell inc.
Model: 0YC523
Chipset: Intel i945/PL/G/GZ
Southbridge 82891GB (ICH7)
Sensor 7901

I don't know what most of that means, but I put it here in case any of you guys do.
Well, it sucks to be me I guess. Is there no way to get a CPU temp on my comp?
I'd be willing to try probes or whatever, but after much looking online, I am having a hard time finding any but vague references to them. Anyone have any other suggestions?
