Need Advice - Video Capture Software

I just put together a new machine with an A-I-W card. I found some freebie video capture software and was successful in capturing the video off of a vidcam. The problem is that that 5 1/2 minutes was 4gb in size (AVI formatted)! There has to be other software that will compress these files more so that 30 minutes of video can be captured and stored on just one CD (much less DVD). Any suggestions?

How about ATI's MMC8.5 ? Works good with my AIW cards.

Ya know I kinda figured that there would be some sort of program that ATI would include with the bundle that would do this, but I didn't see it get installed. I am reasonably sure that the MMC got installed, so it may be hiding in there, or I could just be a moron and passed over it. It was late at night when I tried to do this so that is a possibility at least. If not, is this a program that is installable off of the cd that comes with the card?

Yes, it should have. However there are newer versions available for download at ATI. Here is the place to start. Be sure to read the documentation and installation tips before preceding. MMC is available at the bottom link "Optional Software" You can install MMC 8.5 without the DVD player, but you'll need to install the previous version or another DVD player to playback MPEG-2 captures/encodings. There are "Previous Optional Software" for earlier versions also.

Read the installation notes and readme files closely. Good luck.
