I love this Stuff. This is a man's beer. It is not light or close to it. Great change for people who drink crappy watery beer but it might be too thick for their tastes.

LOL. There's always one of them at the party.

Haha I wouldn't consider Newcastle as a man's beer.

believe it or not, MGD isnt horrible...i tailgate with that or Bud Light.

I would just stick to the general stuff unless you want to try something new. If so, get the winter lager or cherry wheat from sam adams if you like cherries.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Definitely. It's a little pricey, and it may be a bit more flavor than you're used to, but it's definitely one of the more accessible Rogue brews. Nothing too crazy, and really tasty stuff.

Also good stuff to try: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, or maybe a Hefeweizen of some kind.

Sam Adams have several varieties that are pretty good, though all of their beers seem to be just good to me and none of them seem great. But I'd never turn one down

Sampler packs are good too. Many breweries offer them, usually four styles, 3 beers each, or so.

A couple? You lightweight .

Those beers dont sound tasty, then again, i'm a picky bastard. Go with a darker microbrew, like dead guy ale from Rogue.

Carlsberg is my brand.
Rickards is my fav domestic but isn't good in large quantities.
Stella is also good.

For a houseparty pick something nobody else will have...that way you can catch people who take yours; this always happens with BYOB.

I am a BIG fan of the Rogue option mentioned by several posters. The Dead Guy Ale is not too strong or dark, but it is really really good.

Also, Hoegaarden is an excellent beer for those who aren't into the bitter or dark beers. (That being said, those of us who like bitter and dark beers, will almost also unanimously like Hoegaarden as well.

Anything from the Brewery Ommegang is pretty much guaranteed to be good. I love the Three Philosophers, but it may be a bit strong for your tastes, so I'll recommend the Hennepin. It's so tasty, and as an added bonus, it's generally less expensive than rogue around here.

If you want something REALLY interesting, see if you can find "St Bernardus Abt12", "Chimay Blue", "Orval", or "Wastmalle Trippel", these are some of my favorite belgian triples/quadruples. They are all "dark" looking beers, but they are NOTHING like porters or stouts. They are a bit sweeter and the flavors are more robust. That being said, they are not all that bitter.

Enjoy.

I hit up the liquor store to get some of the more popular choices but they didn't have any of them. Ah, guess I need to go to the beer store but it's too far away. Anyways, I ended up getting a sixer of Becks and a 4-pack of Kilkenny. I'll let you guys know if I liked them or not.

They have Yuengling where you're at? It's a lager so I wouldn't go as far as to call it a dark beer.

I was thinking of making my own micro brew. I'd call it prentetious prick ale. I'd make from hops imported from a leper colony on Mauritius, rare barley that has been eaten and ****** out by parrots and bottle it in bottles hand blown by gay dwarf monks in San Francisco.

Think it would sell?
