Sierra Nevada or Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer
Coors
Boddington's Pub Ale

Any of these are tasty without being dark and heavy. Have you considered hard cider?

ahhh, another hophead

I only consider hopheads to be those with an never ending search to mutilate & burn off their tongues, regardless of taste. Celebration is quite tasty & not intense at all. I can't stand some of the more insane brews from Weyerbacher & such, that seem to just twist my head around. People have been reciting the back of the Stone bottles too often, & trying to live every beer in those worded images.

Have not read the whole thread, but I am a big fan of Hoegaarden and Rickard's Red, but if you want a good kickass beer for yourself get a La Fin Du Monde..yum!!

Yeah, some of those double IPA's like the Stone Ruination, Avery Maharaja, etc. can go over the top. To me, a good hoppy beer is like the Sierra Celebration, Sierra Harvest, or Bridgeport IPA, or even an Anchor Liberty. Its good and earthy, a bit citrusy, not thick and caramelly at all. I don't mean to wax melodramatic, but you can tell that a good beer is a product of the soil... not a product of over-manipulation for purposes of artificially raising alcohol and bitterness levels. The beers with insane IBU's really serve no purpose other than bragging rights.

To the OP, I would suggest anything Samuel Smith for a good easy to drink beer.

Other people just want to get as drunk as possible without throwing up. You can't help those types.

You should really register & use the Beerfly feature to search for availability in & around your area. I have absolutely nothing near me, but if I hop on the train, I've got access to a considerable amount, albeit at inflated prices. They have forums for every major metro area & between. Food forums, trading, homebrew, & even silly little blogs.

Don't just follow the lists, delve deeper into the breweries themselves. Alot of that list, like on ratebeer, is inflated. Sure they're great beers, but over time people's reviews get clouded. People scared they will get chastized for not giving those beers glowing reviews. Plus, IPAs & stouts are popular now. As long as it's strong &/or tastes like burnt chocolate/coffee, inexperienced people think it's good. We have to grow out of that.

Craft beer is getting bigger then it's ever been. The big breweries are fighting it, even trying to dress up & imitate it, but most people recogize the wolves in sheep clothing. By supporting you local brews, you defend your right to choose more then just light, lemon-flavored light, & water.
Thanks for the tip. I've been to just about every bar here on the beerfly list.
And I follow everything you're saying. Some of those IPA's and such may be over the top, but they're still better than many of the selection from the grocery stores, considering I haven't found any of the others here yet.

Actually my favorite right now is Sweetwater 420. The 420 is everywhere around here (on tap in several bars and in most grocery stores). I wish we could get some of their other beers here. 420 and the Blue are the only two distributed here (I've spoke to the distributor), and Blue may not be anymore since I haven't seen it in a few weeks in the store (I didnt care for it anyway).

Another beer that I see advertised everywhere now and am amazed to see so many 'regular folks' drinking in bars is Blue Moon. Advertising works wonders (I can go on and on about how it affects sales on crap liquor). I do enjoy drinking a Blue Moon every now and then though, and at some small bars that's the only decent choice.
But I think I will always mentally lower and shake my head everytime I see someone drinking/talking about Corona (and Patron, and...).

I'm a Sierra Nevada, Heineken guy. However, recently I ventured out into Sam Adams (winter ale) and Magic hat which were both good.

Coors Light
Budweiser
Rickards Red
Guiness
Dos Equis
Brahamas
Moosehead
Canadian
Amsterdam
Sleeman
Wellington

And a few others. I'm not a huge fan of dark beer so please keep that in mind.

sigh...then you must not like beer

And besides marketing, *that's* exactly how not so great alcohol gets popular (though part of the reason that happens is directly *because* of marketing).
Not saying newcastle is necessarily bad though.
