Need DDR2-800 memory

Hi all,

Maybe I am crazy, but I am trying to find some DDR2-800 RAM to use so I can limp along another of couple of months on my current C2D system. Running Windows 10 and am currently using 4 Gig of Corsair XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500 1066MHz. I would like to get a 16 GB kit, but will settle for 8 GB as well if the price is right. The system is RAM starved right now and swapping a LOT. Seems that most of what I can find is going to cost me the same as a new motherboard which is a no go.

Now I would have thought that seeing as this type of RAM is maybe 7+ years old it would be cheap as hell, but I am finding that I can get current (faster) RAM for cheap while this old stuff is expensive as hell.

I will say I have found some 8 GB kits for "reasonable" (~55 bucks) but I have never heard of some of these brands or there is simply no brand at all listed. Is this stuff safe? I was hoping to stick with a brand I know: kingston, crucial, corsair, etc..... All the name brand stuff seems to be like ~$150.00

Am I just not looking correctly or does old RAM get jacked up in price due to low availability?

I usually go with Samsung or Hynix as well. Old RAM is jacked up in price. Still a bargain at $150, compared to 2009.

Assuming four DIMM slots, 4GB DDR2 modules are pricey always have been. There are some cheaper 'high density' 4GB DDR2 unbuffered modules but these are not supported by Intel chipsets, only for AMD processors.

You're going to be stuck with 2GB modules for total of 8GB. I'm seeing reasonably priced options from Corsair, Mushkin, Crucial, and G-Skill all these are decent brands but not too many DDR2-1066 most are DDR2-800 (PC2-6400).

You could try Ebay I have gotten good deals on 2GB DDR2 modules to upgrade a couple C2D/C2Q systems recently but were JEDEC DDR2-800MHz not overclocking or performance enthusiast lines.
