Hello, new to the forum (long time reader, first post)

I decided to update the nvidia display drivers on my sons computer, he was running 77.77 and thought it was time to update to the new 84.21s. Having never done so before on his pc, I went the usual route of the Add/Remove Programs and clicked on nVidia Drivers. A box popped up asking which drivers I wanted to uninstall - not paying attention, I choose "all". Not even thinking, I also unistalled his Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe nforce4 drivers. I have an ABIT board in my pc with VIA chipsets, so I've never seen that option before. Well, the PC boots up and now it's trying to install 3 drivers that it cannot find: SM Bus Controller, Other PCI Bridge, and PCI Memory Controller. I tried to let windows find them, but it was unsuccessful. I went to Asus' site to download the drivers, but it is VERY confusing, I'm not sure what I need. I was hoping you guys could help out! Any help would be appreciated - hoping I can get this done before he gets home from school and find out what an idiot his dad is! Here's the pc specs if needed:

AMD X2 4400+
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Bios version 1015
Dual 7800GTs (SLI)
2 gig memory (2x 1gig sticks)
WinXP Professional

If you need anymore information, 'll try to find it. Thanks again!

I have an Asus board and there were no chipset drivers available to download from their website. I had to use the installation CD that came with the motherboard for the chipset drivers.

You're looking in the wrong place, get them from nVidia for nForce4:

LINKY

Select "platform/nForce drivers">"nForce AMD">"Windows XP".

Also, when you change out graphics drivers, DO EVERYTHING FROM SAFE MODE! Steps:

1) Safe mode, uninstall drivers and reboot
2) Safe mode, install new drivers and reboot
3) Boot right into Windows normally.

Some people run Driver Cleaner in there, but it's really not necessary unless you're having problems.

I never recommend using the supplied CDROM drivers since they are often very old. They work in a pinch, but it's never a good idea.
