Need help installing windows 2000

I am trying to install windows 2000 on a laptop using a PCMCIA cd-drive. I can't boot from the cd-rom, but i can boot from the windows 2000 boot disks. The windows 2000 install program doesn't recognize the drive, and I don't know how to load the drivers from it during the install. I tried F6 like for SCSI drives, but it saidno drivers were found on the disk.

Any help would be appeciated.
The laptop is a Sharp Mebius PC-MT1 and the cd-drive is a Sony PCGA-DVD51/A

sounds like you need to find out what type of disk you have scsi or what have you, and download the NT drivers for it, put it on a floppy and then after hitting F6 during install bootup insert the floppy and hit enter make sure its reading the floppy and it should load the drivers.. see the disk and install... I believe if you have a scsi disk what should be on the floppy is the scsi controller drivers for nt4 or win2k if you can find em, but do this and try again

the drive is not SCSI it is just regular IDE. I tried doing that with the driver disk supplied by the manufacturer, but it said that it didn't find anything on the disk.

Well here's where the drivers are for your cdrom. Have you tried moving the win2k files from the folder to the root of the floppy? Are you sure card services are getting activated?

yeah i saw that but, but i don't see drivers for windows 2000 for download. They only have the windows me drivers, and I understand that the drivers are supposed to be included on the windows 2000 cd.

I don't know anything about PCMCIA devices, this is my first laptop, and I don't know if the card services are getting activated.

If card services and the PC card for the cdrom were getting activated you'd here that little musical score. According to this the drivers won't work until after win2k is installed. You could try installing win98, then doing a win2k upgrade.

that's what i tried to do
the laptop came with windows me and i want to get rid of it. the install does everything it's supposed to do in windows, and when it restarts it can't find the drive.
do I have any other alternatives? can windows 2000 be installed over the network or anything like that?

How about copying the I386 directory to the hard drive then using the floppies to install? I've never had to do it, so I don't know if it'll work. But yes you can do remote installs, most of the time.

i guess i'm going to have to wait to see what the vendor says, because they assured me that i would be able to boot of the cd-rom, and install windows 2000.
do you know where i can find more info in remote installs in the meantime? that sounds like it would be the easiest way to do it.

copying the files to the hard drive won't work because i need to format the drive

Have you tried Pederv way? All you would need is a win98 bootdisk with your cd rom drivers, and xcopy32. You could format the hard drive using win98.
