I bought my 1700+ about a year and a half ago, it's a thoroughbred core and I'm running it on a FIC AN-11 Stealth mobo. I've heard alot of people say that these things can overclock to 2.4 or even higher without much problem, however, I can only get my chip to overlock to 1900+ at 1.6 GHz. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on why I can't overclock my cpu more, is it my mobo? If so, what mobo do you guys recommend I get for overlcocking? And if it isn't my mobo, how do I check to see if my cpu is of bad overclocking quality?

Is there anything else I'm missing? Do I need more air cooling? I'm also using 2x512MB PC2100, 1 Crucial and 1 Kingston. Any suggestions?

Is your T-Bred version B with 'DLT3C' code writting on the CPU, If yes then you can get 2.2ghz, 2.3ghz, or 2.4ghz.
For better board get the Abit NF7-S V.2

------------------------------------------------------
AMD Athlon XP T-Bred B DLT3C 1700+ @ 2.3GHZ (1.775v) 400FSB = 3200+
Abit NF7-S V.2 (nforce 2 400U)
Corsair TwinX XMS 3200LL 512MB @ 2-3-2-6 (2.6v)
Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB
Antec TrueBlue 480W
Thermalright SLK-947U with 92mm Vantec Tornado @2800RPM
Maxtor 91531U3 15GB
2x Western Digital WD400BB 40GB serials
Antec PlusView 1000AMG
Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks THX 550 5.1

Your board and RAM may not be able to handle the higher FSB speeds. You're pushing the PC2100 very far when shooting for the higher speeds. It wouldn't suprise me if the problem lies in the PC2100, and you really need PC2700 (preferably PC3200).

Here's a few suggestions though:

- Raise the voltage slightly to both the CPU and RAM (1.8v max CPU, 2.7v max RAM)
- Try running a single stick of RAM, instead of both the Crucial and Kingston

Also, check if you have the latest BIOS for your mobo. May help with DDR compatibility depending on what was updated (check change log)

You'll want an nforce 2 motherboard for that big of an overclock; the abit nf7-'s version 2.0 are going cheap right now; also the soltek nv64-400 is a nice board for single channel memory and cheaper. (I'll check the soltek name)

People like other motherboards but get nforce 2 for the agp/pci lock which means you don't have to worry about those components being overclocked along with your front side bus.

You'll want pc3200 (ddr400) or better; keep checking here and don't buy just any memory.

You'll want good cooling.

You'll want luck.

It'll be a lot of fun, keep checking in. I've got 2 1700's in my rigs and a 3rd on backup which I'm selling; they do overclock nicely.

if you bought that a year and a half ago its likely the chip is a T-Bred A and will only be able to get to about 2 Ghz tops.

buy a NF2 400 ULTRA motherboard. then get yourself a stick of pc4500, a sparkle/fortron/antec 600watt PSU, CU cooler for CPU.

then if or when you still get crappy OC results, as a last measure only, check what the cpu codes reads off the cpu. remember, do this last after you did everything else.

Call them and tell them to install CPU-Z then ask them about the results
