Need help picking a digital camera!

Hey everyone,

I'm looking through cameras on a few websites and ive noticed that CF isnt that popular any more...

I love my camera that I have now because it writes to the card so fast, I can take pictures one after another without waiting.

I want to know whats the best media for cameras nowadays and which camera is the best 'bang for the buck' / has the best ccd for 200-300$ canadian.

First off, CMOS and CCD are squared now. No need to bother seeing whether the camera your looking at is CCD or CMOS.
Second, there are different classes of cameras, including the Ultra compact, compact, Super Zooms, Compact super zooms, wide angles, Digital SLRS etc. There are very good ones from each class and for respective purposes. Generally, the smaller you get, the worse the camera will be necessarily.

Personally, I am waiting for the new Panasonics to come out.

I took another look and I think Ill go for another Canon with SD memory. Which one should I choose?

Canon PowerShot Elph 6MP Digital Camera (SD600) 299.99$
Canon 6.0MP Digital Camera (A540) 299.99$
Canon PowerShot 6.0MP Digital Camera (SD630) 329.99$ (10$ rebate, its usually 339$)
Canon PowerShot 6.0MP Digital Camera (SD700 IS) $349.99 (120$ rebate, its usually 469.99$)



I really don't want to spend the extra money on the SD700 IS if its not worth it.

Can anyone lend me their opinions on these cameras?

At this point, I wouldn't consider anything but the SD800IS... which is a bit outside your price range. BUT, it has Image Stabilization and wide angle lense (28mm). That plus good photo quality, and overall operation makes it very nice.

It goes for about $350 USD = $400 ish CDN? I would spend the extra cash though if you intend to use it alot or get the most out of it.

The A540 is also a great camera, so if you don't absolutely need the form factor the SD series, I would get this (plus its cheap!). Out of the SDs, the 700IS and 800IS would be my only recommendations, the lower ones are far too out of date/lacking in features or IQ.
