need help with boot up prob...

im having a prob with my comp system and im not sure whats causing the problem... whenever i boot up my comp it says would you like to go into normal mode, safe mode, (and a few other options) well i tired both normal and safe mode but I get this message on both tries "while initializing VKD...windows protetion error.... need to restart" ive restated over and over again but still get same message, anyone know what i can do?? ive never had this prob b4.

Im using win98 on a etower (366 celeron)

You'll probably need to reinstall Windows. You can try and isolate the problem to a specific file, but it's usually not worth the time to go through that process. Just drop a new copy of Windows over the old one and hope it goes away

It's also a good idea to back-up your address book, bookmarks and documents in case you need to re-format before you install. I always wipe my drive clean and then I do a fresh install.

Are you ever getting completely into Windows? It so run system file checker. Start -> Run -> SFC.

I've been having boot-up problems lately too (ever since I installed Nero 5.5 with my shiny new Lite-On 24102B). I'll get BSODs on boot-up about 50% of the time, but if I hit 'enter' the BSOD will usually go away and the computer will finish booting up normally. I've gotten this similar 'windows protection error' once or twice since installing said burner software, I'm in the process of preparing to reinstall Windows.
