1. ibm t21, got it off ebay with no OS installed. pc boots up to a prog asking for boot sequence. i change sequence to CDROM and insert a windows me cd. however cd doesnt boot. i take a closer look at the sequence and notice the cd rom doesnt have a + next to it, even though its at the top of the order list, with floppy and network to follow. so i took out the cd bay and inserted the floppy drive. i put in my 9x boot disk (with format) and booted with cd rom support, when it reaches command prompt i exhange the bay with the cd rom. errors ensue, startup files stay on the diskette. whats the easiest way to get windows on it?

2. does anyone have a link on how to correctly disect an ibm t21 laptop without breaking anything?

3. got a pc box, got a usb optical mouse. cursor locks up after 15 minutes of use from cold boot. if i unplug the usb cable and reinsert then it lasts for another 5 mintues before locking up. tried the other ports, same problem. exchanged mouse, same problem. moved pci cards around to avoid possible conflict, same problem. exchanged motherboard, tried different os's, 98se, me, 2k pro off of fresh formats, bought brand new mouse, SAME PROBLEM. can anyone explain this? im still stuck using a ps2 mouse

1.) Windows ME discs are generally not bootable. If you boot with a floppy, you can't switch out to your cdrom drive because the drivers have not been loaded. The easiest way to get ME on there would be to make a bootable cd (www.bootdisk.com) and use it just as you would a boot floppy

3.) Does the machine only have problems with usb mice? what about other usb devices? Does it ever lock up with the ps/2?

Go to www.thinkpads.com and register for their forums. Also you can request membership at another site, thinkpads.sderr.com. There are some really terrific and helpful people who are owners of the T-21 on that site. Windows 2000 works great on that machine. The secret to all Thinkpads, is to go to the www.ibm.pc.com site and download all the drivers for your type number, including the install directions (which are critical) then it won't be much of a problem.

ME? is there a really good reason for using it? far as i'm concerned, it's probably the worst os microsoft has done stability wise. 2k/xp would have to be a better choice.
