My OS is 98se.

When i set my resolution to 1280X960 the refresh rate defaults to 60.0 KHz/60 Hz. Even when i use HZ tool to set refresh rate to 85Hz it still shows up as 60Hz.

When i set my resolution to 1024X768 the refresh rate defaults to 81.4 KHz/100 Hz.

Anyone know how i can increase the resolution to 85Hz in 1280X960? My monitor is IBM P260 with max refresh rate at 1280X960 of 93Hz

Thanks

Akaz

EDIT: from some reason 1280X1024 resolution has no problem maintaining 85Hz

Possible flaw in monitor, but since it doesnt change the setting I would assume you need a driver update from manufact's web site.

will your monitor support it? Do you have the box that says "Hide Modes This Monitor Cannot Display" checked?

Apparently it didnt

here is its manual and its official IBM page and a review.

So i guess i wont bother with 1280X960 resolution.

But now i have another problem and thats the reason i went down to 1280X960 in the first place. And that is that at this level even with 85Hz refresh the screen every now and then (like every half hour) starts to get wavey or starts shaking. Not all of it but just parts usually sides. Its mostly flickering and waving (like watching thru a wet glass)

Any ideas what might be causing that? since i am obvious within spec now?

EDIT: Just realized something. I wondering if the monitor is getting enuf current. Cuz my PC, Monitor, TV, and surround speakers all run of the same electric outlet. Is there anyway to check if the current to the monitor is sufficient?

Well according to your IBM page it should do it fine.

Why if you dont mind me asking, have you picked the strange res of 1280X960 ??

Why not something more square?

Try setting it to 1280X1024 (What i have) then change refresh rate to 85hz and see what it does

Missed that part.

I would imagine its due to the fact that funny resolutions you have on monitors are designed for things like widescreen monitors & televisions.

Why cant you just use 1280x1024? Things wont look squashed if you use 1280x1024.

A standard monitor has a width/height ratio of 4:3, 1280x960 is 4:3, 1280x1024 is 5:4.

The image will be slightly distorted if you use 1280x1024 (although it generally isn't noticable).

Okay this is driving me nuts!!

Today when i turned on the computer the whole screen was shaking, when i switch to lower resolution (1280X1024 --> 1024X768) the shaking stoped.

Now 1280X1024 is a supported resolution so i dont see what the problem is. If it was voltage or magnetic interference changing the resolution should have fixed it.

sounds like you need to go shopping,

at work (large telemarketing corporation) there are a lot of monitors. MOST of the older ones do the side vibration thing.

I think it's just cuz they are shtty monitors, but old too.

It almost seems like signal distorion. (the vibrations)

also I would assume that the 93 rating is some bullshtt marketing tactic. It might only be capable of that a 800x680 or something low. but as you increase to higher res it isnt so good. odd shapes (1280x960) are usually not supported as well as regular sizes.

like I said, sounds like you need to get a better screen, try mitubishi or sony. my HP 1110 has a trinitron tube (sony), it looks great!

I know that this is not what you want to hear, sorry

Funny that you call it 'odd'.

It is 1280x1024 that is odd! Look at those nice circles (noooot... they become elipses ), nice portrait pics (that's how heads look on Jupiter <G>)...
