Okay, this all started new yrs eve. I decided I wanted to play some Doom 3 and went to fire it up and my system locked. I rebooted and it stopped after cpu detection (no memory post). I rebooted a few times with same results and called it a night. In the morning I cleared the cmos and got it up and going. I did ok browsing the net but locked up in any games. I decided it was about time for a fresh window install and wrote zeros to the disk and started a new install. It seemed to take forever but eventually went. I started it today and went to install my nforce drivers and it just restarted and and I havent been able to log into windows since. I tried safe mode and a few other modes and still nothing (just a black screen with a blinking line in upper left corner. I have tried running memtest from a floppy and did that for 7.5 hours with no errors. My cpu temp and voltages all look good (according to bios anyways) temp is 45c and voltages were all slighly higher than spec. I ran seagate seatools and passed all the physical tests but got a file structure error. It said : "Critical errors in the index and metadata" whatever that means Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated (or else I gotta take it to a shop) :-( My new X-850 XT vid card comes tommorow and I really wanna get this workin ;-) Thanks

Well, before you take it to the shop, I would try that new video card when it comes. This isn't exactly my best area of expertise but your post, locking up in games and restarting when you tried to install ur nforce drivers, almost sounds like ur nforce video card decided to poop out on ya. It would also explain the fact that ur machine fires up but all you get is a blinking curser. It sounds like everything else is prolly OK except for that error. Did you try to google that error phrase? Like I said, I'm not a real genius with video cards but it wouldn't hurt to try the new card since its on its way, anyway. Sorry Im not more help.

a blinking cursor is usually caused by a boot problem. Sounds like your hard drive might have some problems. Could be a bad boot file, or incorrect boot setting. Have you recently changed your setup recently?

Heres a guide on repairing the boot file on your hd.

For your situation, you'll wanna run "fixboot /list"

This will show all the windows installations on your boot drive. If you see any, just follow the guide.

Hope this helps.
