Ok well ive been really lookin into monitors and have read great things about the VX2025 by viewsonic but I would really like something bigger. I would use this monitor for gaming, movies, and just browser, so basically a all multipurpose for me. Mainly would game/browse. Well besides the VX2025 I was looking at the following, first
http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pc-60-3-22-widescreen-monitor.aspx low res for its size, but would i see a really big diff? I know the pixels would be bigger...but would it look "Bad"?

Next which is high for budget is this, would this run nice for my use?

All help is appreciated, I plan on running a x1950xtx

O and I also will end up using this as my T.V once I put a tuner in it, i will prolly hook up the xbox as well to it.

Which monitor do you have now?

I would go for the Dell 2407WFP (for >20"). I just posted an explanation here regarding the Sony SDM-P234 vs. Dell 2407WFP: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1921522&enterthread=y

Unfortunately the Sony is really lacking on inputs so you may knock that off the list right off the bat, though strictly being a monitor it would have been better. I'm sure the Acer isn't bad but the Dell is not much more expensive so why not shell out the extra?

Of course, there's always the NEC 20WMGX2, which provides the highest image quality even if it's not as big. Yeah, it's expensive, but not as much as the 24" screens. It sure is feature rich though (TV tuner, all the inputs you need including composite/component/S-Video/2xaudio, and HDCP). It also has a USB hub like the Dell but just a warning, I've found it a bit shaky. The issues I do have with the NEC are very minor. I don't regret not getting a 24" (it's just too big for desktop usage IMO, but it's good if its truly a multimedia/HTPC monitor). I may change my opinion when they make S-IPS 24" screens. The Sony looked great but I needed those inputs. I upgraded from a 19" LCD.

I wouldn't even bother with the 22". The big dot pitch is a turn off compared to what you could have with a 20" wide. Are you really sure 20" is going to be too small? It was shorter than my 19" but with the higher resolution you don't even notice once you start using it. Anyway, the 1680x1050 of the NEC would be much easier on your video card as well vs. 1920x1200. You could turn everything to high quality and enjoy pure image quality bliss.

Edit: I'll list the advantages of going for the NEC 20WMGX2 over the Dell 2407WFP:

a) smaller dot pitch, resulting in a finer picture
b) no color shift at wide viewing angles
c) all image details are intact at a perpendicular viewing angle
d) response time is faster
e) less input lag
f) higher saturation at lower brightness (easier on the eyes but still awesome color a la CRT)
g) higher contrast in DV mode
h) less stress on the video card at 1680x1050
i) built-in TV tuner (combined with PIP this is awesome. The Dell has PIP but no TV tuner.)
j) integrated speakers included with purchase (don't need add'l sound bar)
k) audio inputs
l) it's not as expensive (right now anyway)
m) OptiClear contrast coating

And the cons:

a) not as big
b) resolution is not as high
c) does not have scaling options in DVI-PC mode (not in VGA or DVI but tons of scaling, even custom adjustable scaling in the "video" connections (component/etc))

Now you can see my rationale.

dell 2407WFP for use only as a pc monitor is great... but if ever going to use component inputs or as a hdtv monitor its horrible.

Different strokes for different folks. I went from a 19" LCD to a 22" and I love the large pixel size. Dot pitch on a 22" wide is smaller than 19", so I'm not sure why you find it that bad.

I owned a Dell 2005fpw before, and I found the pixels to be a bit too small for my taste. I consider the 24" screens with 1920X1200 to be perfect, but a bit out of my price range. 22" is a good compromise (especially the cheap 5ms Acer 22" widescreen).

Yeah, moving from 19"->22" is actually a little better. I just wish there were 8-bit 22" LCDs. Which one do you have and how do you like it?

Ahh...well I'd be glad to take smaller pixels than a 20". CRTs are around 0.25 or less and that helps them scale better.
