If I may be so bold to ask, how long have you been using it?
Have you had any problems with skin sensitivity or dermal bleeding/oozing?
Have you found that the adhesive is strong enough?
Any other issues?

I have been on birth control since i was 16 years old, so for six years. For the first two years, i was on the pill. I hated it because if i forgot to take a pill and was even off by an hour, i would get sick. that scared me because if i was throwing it up, it was not being effective.

I waited a while for the patch and as soon as it came out, i got it.
I have never been so happy as i am with my patch. I keep it on my lower abdomen and switch from the left side to the right side every week and i even tan with it on, swim in the ocean, pool, etc and never had any problems with skin irritation, skin bleeding/oozing at all.

It is definatly strong enough. There was only one time that i was in the sun/sand/ocean and it started to come off(but that was because it was towards the end of the week anyways) but they give you an "energency" patch to keep in case that happens.

I found for me the best place to put the patch is on my lower abdomen. It stays put there better than any other place.

I love it. i understand the risks, but thats with any BC out there.
It made me lose weight, it cleared my skin up and my periods are not nearly as heavy!

After LolaWiz, I'd like to see how my girlfriend would be on the patch for a few. I've always wanted to have her use it, it just seems more convenient. If there's any other wierd feelings she gets, off she goes (provided she wants to try the patch).

35%? Shens.

Not necessarily... it depends whether the clinical trials took into account the women's cycles... given that there are only certain days in the month a woman CAN become pregnant, it may be totally useless but still give you 35% effectiveness...

These numbers come from real world trials. They take a group of couples and teach them how to properly use the withdraw method and then track their success based on how many get pregnant. The problem with the withdraw method is that even if you have the will power to always pull out in time, men start to release sperm before they actually ejaculate. There has been plenty of test subjects for this to make these number very reliable.
please refer to joke referance near the bottom of page one

That joke actually works better for the rhythm method which actually shows numbers worse then no contraception at all. One of the doctors on my team use to joke that the rhythm method only worked for nine months.

Who is your doctor friend? I don't think I would visit him. From webmd.com (the only reliable source):
How Effective Is the Rhythm Method?

The rhythm method is typically less than 87% effective.
Done correctly, it can be highly effective, says Stanford from the University of Utah. Stanford co-authored a study of 1,876 couples using a method of natural family planning that relied upon changes in cervical mucus to chart fertility. The study, published in the June 1998 issue of the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, found the technique had an impressive 96% effectiveness rate in preventing pregnancy, comparing favorably to condoms and diaphragms, though still less reliable than the pill or sterilization

Thank you, Lola. Very informative, it is good to hear a first hand report.
I don?t think I have ever encountered that specific side effect (nausea only when taking the pill late) but if it continued for more then 3 months, then that is a strong indication that you should quit the pill. I am glad the patch is working out better for you.

Does the patch cause a patched shaped rash around the application area for you?

To be clear, the doctor I am refering to is a Ph.D. in Psychology, and was heading up one of the teams that was doing the research I spoke of. There was MD's on the team as well, but they didn't make any jokes I can remember.

From webmd.com (the only reliable source):
How Effective Is the Rhythm Method?

The rhythm method is typically less than 87% effective.

yea, WAY less then 87%.

I have read these reports. They are correct, if you visit a doctor before every instance of intercourse and have him check too see if she is fertile, then the rhythm method can be up to 96% efficient, under experimental testing they were able to only get into the mid eighties, which they blame on not following the method correctly, in their lab, with a MD present. This method is actually better suited for couples trying to get pregnant to plan when to get busy.
In the real world tests where you spend an afternoon training adults how to do the method, without medical equipment, and then set them lose to do it, we come back with about 35% effectiveness.
There are lots of reasons for this, like the fact that the rhythm method does not give breaks for birthdays, holidays, vacations, or hurricane evacuations. Not all women are extremely regular with their cycles, or their cycle may change. All these things contribute to the actual effectiveness of the rhythm method as a contraceptive for real world use by someone like our OP being much less then 87%, and more in the realm of 35%.
