need a cell phone that also is a pda. will need to sync the calender/contact info with either a desktop/laptop running win xp pro and office 2k3 (outlook).

what would you recommend?

another vote for the treo 650, I love mine. I needed an all-in-one device and this works out fairly well so far. It's not perfect by any means, but its good.

While we're on a semi-related topic, does anyone know of a bluetooth stereo headset? I hate having different ones for music and hands-free.

Biggest reason for me was os...I really REALLY hate symbian, pocket pc and anything even vaguely related to microsuck. That pretty much left me with palm. *shrug* Also the 650 was out at the right time, got a great deal on it ($300), did close to everything i wanted and so on.

thanks, i actually wanted micro$oft for ease of use and (assuming) ease of syncing with office products. the person this is for is not too computer savvy and wants it as easy as can be.

I'm liking my blackberry 7250. While its not a true PDA, its simpler to use than any PocketPC phone I've ever tried.

i have the audiovox (similar to the siemens i believe). it's great as a pda, internet access, calendering etc. i could not use it as my primary phone.

YMMV.

That new Samsung through Verizon is really good. I share one with co-workers (whoever is on call gets to use it).

it's Windows Mobile, sorry but it just isn't dependable, plus it tries to do too much. wireless sync calender, contacts and email, push emails. sometimes when syncing calls get dropped etc. several times it froze on me.

since i've been using it primarily as a phone i haven't had it freeze once.

treo's are better in my opinion. but don't have some of the advantages of windows mobile, multimedia stuff etc.

if you want a business utility, the treo is better. if you want a business utility with some extras, but not as dependable, than windows mobile.

edit

forgot to mention, it's handsfree stuff isn't as good as that in my motorola v710 soon to be e815 either.

I like my Samsung i600 through Verizon. It doesn't have a touch screen and all data entry is via the keypad, but I just use mine for the calendar, and it's more of a phone than a PDA. Most of the data entry I do is on the PC and synched to the phone anyways, although I've gotten good at using the T9 text entry app that it comes with. Plus it flips shut to protect the screen. It is getting a little long in the tooth now, but I'll keep it till it won't boot up anymore since I like compactness. A downside it that it doesn't have bluetooth, although it can handle up to a 512MB SD card with it's SDIO slot.

i have done a bit of research through my friends and one that has the treo650 says it doesn't wear very well (i looks like sh!t and she has only had it 3 mos) and also, she hits buttons with her face and that a lot of people can not hear her due to the mic placement.

can anybody comment on these issues?

the reason i was looking at the siemens is ease of use (ie - windows gui) and it will be used mostly (90%) for contact and calendering so these two uses need to be the easiest. like i said earlier, the person will be using a laptop for their email and just the pda and laptop will need to have the same contact info and calender info (outlook).

how do you think it would do in this role? how was it as just a phone? sound quality? mic sensitivity?

thanks

The group of docs I work with just bought a crapload of Treo 650's the replace their 600's they hated the 600's and dislike the 650's even more because of these issues and they've had several die already.

They've only had them a couple of months & are looking for something different.
