Ok heres the lowdown: I have 2 modems (one USR PerfPro, the other a trusty Diamond SupraMax), and 2 accounts with my ISP. I told them that I want to do modem shotgunning, or multilinking, and they set my dialup account to be similar to ISDN... meaning, I get one IP if both connections work.
I setup my connection according to Microsoft KB Q307849, but the second modem cannot connect... gives the error that the "remote computer closed the connection"... this is after it tries to bundle the additional lines.
I got a workaround to it, which is to have it dial in with the second modem when there is 1% activity (after the first modem is connected), and it works ok... but it seems to me that something here is amiss. My connection isn't any faster (in terms of downloading), and no difference in latency in-game.
I have tried enabling/disabling modem compression, setting the speeds of both modems to 19200 (via the controls built into the modem properties window, no AT commands tried yet), and dialing in seperately with the second modem (under another username); nothing seems to make much difference. Anyone have any ideas? Or is my ISP going at this the wrong way?
