Need some info about ISDN

Can anybody tell me where to get information on isdn modems, dual data, and related subject matter? Since dsl and cable are not avalable in my area. Also, I heard that I might incur costly connect and disconnect charges (thru modem)...why would it be better if I let it stay connected?
