PSU: seasonic X-series 650W
Mobo: Asus P5Q
CPU: E6750
RAM: Corsair twin2x2048-6400C4 (2x1024), G.Skill PI-B 4 GB (rated for 800mhz CL4) (2x2048), DDR2
Video: nvidia GTX 480
cooling: water on cpu and gpu

ok, so this box was running fine (fully stable) ever since I added the G.Skill ram, at memory config of 5-5-5-18 (the default) 475 Mhz FSB, but not so long ago I decided to experiment trying to get more performance out of the memory system (not just the memory itself but also the NB), I accidentally discovered that I could have a lower tRD (9 compared to 10) (NB latency aka "performance level") if I set my ram to 4-4-4-12, the difference between tRD10+5-5-5-18 and tRD9+4-4-4-12 is roughly 8% (~500 MB/s memory bandwidth improvement and about 7 ns (16-17 clocks) latency improvement).

this change required removing the G Skill because it couldn't handle the load, the corsair seems to be doing fine at 2.14V (475 FSB 4-4-4-12) on the other hand, but maybe only seems: in principle metest 86+ doesn't report any errors, there are BSOD's: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, I have ran prime95 blend and after 2 hours it encountered an error.

so the questions I have for you are:
do you recommend using only 2 GB of ram over 6 GB of ram for the 8% improvement in memory system performance ? (I am using x86 OS)
what do you think is the problem being caused by ? is it the NB not able to handle the 333 Strap + tRD 9 or is it the memory not able to do 950 Mhz + 4-4-4-12 ? do you recommend trying more voltage ? (there is no cooling problem on the ram, I have a good fan on them)

I assume you mean by x86 it's 32-bit? If so no point in using more than 4GB ram. Else I would say 6GB of slow memory is always better than 2GB of fast memory. Besides that, the memory improvements might look nice on paper but I doubt if you actually see some real world performance gains.

As for unstability, maybe the Corsairs actually can't handle it either? Or 475 fsb is just too high for the mobo.
