Your use of the word 'demolish' is also wrong, unless you have your own set of connotations for the definition.
Those people that have a quad-core clocked at >4Ghz won't lose a thing to i7.
(not responding to you, but quoting you to add further words in the same line of thinking)
From my perspective the healthy majority of forum hype preceeding Nehalem launch is very reminiscent of the forum hype that preceeded Skulltrail launch.
Complete with all the performance/cost concerns (and rebuttals) and needing to buy new ram, etc. Even the number of threads (8) that you need software to take advantage comes out. And don't forget the gaming arguments, it's better, no it won't be, yes it will be, its all for epeen, it'll demolish yorkfield, yadda yadda yadda.
And where did skulltrail end up?
Regardless my point is this, hype is hype and there are people who like to be on one side or the other and until we have the numbers in front of us there is no value to arguing and debating the hype.
Once we have the numbers then at least a fruitful conversation can be had about the relevance of the performance for a given user's interest in cost, performance, apps, etc.
All the arguing about skulltrail evaporated once the numbers were out, and not because skulltrail dissapointed but because there was no longer an argument.
