I have tried downloading it twice now, and both times my computer has had a hard crash in the middle of the download.

Why wouln't you trust any torrent clients? Many are open source and thus are as secure or more so then many software packages.

While this is now completely off topic, I don't trust torrent clients mainll because nearly every virus/trojan I have had came from some sort of download client (Like Limewire, or eDonkey). I haven't kept up on them, but even if they are open source, then that doesn't keep out malware. In fact it makes it so that it is easier to implant malware into the program.

If it were released by a respected software company free of charge (like Blizzard does) or by one for a fee, then I would be far more likely to trust that. In the meantime, I don't want to spend the effort to verify that the software is actually safe; especially since I would need to initially research how to even verify such a thing before I could even start.

I would need a client to d/l it then, and I don't trust any torrent client. Although I guess this file itself could easily be unsafe as well.

uTorrent is absolutely safe (in and of itself), although it's good to opt out of the ubiquitous ask toolbar during installation. What torrents you access is a different issue altogether, but that's a client that has no malware/spyware/adware whatsoever.

The virus/trojan hasnt come from the P2P software but from what you have downloaded from it.

Anyway, back on topic.. anyone playing this yet? I started last night, played for about an hour. The german voice acting doesn't bother me at all, actually adds to it a little bit I think. At least in Oblivion the voice acting was terrible, here it sounds a bit better and you can't tell what they're saying. Dialogue (via subtitles) is ok, a bit amateur-ish but still better than oblivion IMO. The intro video had me wanting to find out more of the story.

Gameplay as has been established is nothing too new. I'm still in the beginning part of the game so haven't seen much of the world yet.

Downloaded it from the Strategy Informer link last night. Didn't take long. I will be installing this evening and checking it out. I'm not really looking for new gameplay. If the world is worth exploring and hacking through then it will be fun.

Thanks for posting this, going to try it out. I honestly wasn't a fan of Oblivion, but really liked Daggerfall(i know i know) and Morrowind. We shall see if it's as "different" as they claim. Looks and sounds decent and I've been lacking a RPG to play

If you were a Morrowind fan you'll enjoy Nehrim quite a bit more than Oblivion i'd imagine. I was in the same boat as you, loved Morrowind and grew to really hate Oblivion due to auto leveling enemies, scaling random loot, copy and paste dungeons, etc.. As far as i'm concerned Nehrim is what Oblivion should have been. It really is that good. I'm about 20 hours into it so far and some have said you could easily play for 100, which is really incredible to me for a free addon.

Pick this up guys!

Started playing today, and I am really impressed so far. The mine you're in when you enter the game is bigger, and far more interesting than any of the dungeons I explored in the original game. Can't wait to see the rest of it.

I have had a few freezes and glitches, which I am still trying to optimize away. I would save often. Another thing that got me initially is that they put an icon on the desktop, but that won't start the game. If you start from that icon and nothing happens when you choose "New game" then what you have to do is start the Nehrim launcher, open datafiles, and select the three mod files, then launch the game. The launcher also has its own game settings, etc. It's a little confusing.

It didn't come from the client, it came from you downloading things you aren't supposed to download. Limewire was/is a cesspool of people that know you will download anything without a care because you are a thief without morals. You got viruses because you failed to anticipate the consequences of your actions, just like people catching an STD because they put their junk in random holes. Your ethernet port works the same way. They teach you this stuff in 2nd grade now, you should know better.

I finally got the game running, and am trying to like it. However, so far my main impression of the game is extreme frustration. Cant seem to find my way around the mine and the maps are just as worthless as the maps in Oblivion.

Also, combat seems quite difficult compared to the original game. I keep getting killed by the apes and the human monsters/zombie, whatever they are, and I am playing on the easiest difficulty.

I liked Oblivion but could never get into Morrowind at all. If this mod is more like Morrowind, perhaps it is not for me.

How can you be lost in the mine? It's pretty much 1 path. So yea, I've been playing this off and on. Pretty nice, but yea..the monsters are tough and come at you fast..hard to keep any distance w/o running into trees, rocks etc. And the damn bears and mountain lions gang up on you .

There are a couple mobs in the mine that are more difficult, and are really more like puzzles to be solved. The Black Trolls are one, don't try to fight them. You're supposed to figure out a way around that problem. Another is the burning body zombie. You can kill it, but probably you won't with your dagger or pick or whatever you're carrying. There is some stuff not far away that will help. The ordinary trolls and zombies I didn't really have a problem with.

I found the mine dark, but really well done. In terms of the darkness I read a walkthrough that stated users should merge in some original Oblivion textures to solve that problem (perhaps from Qarl's texture pack, don't really remember). I haven't tried it, and only found the darkness an issue in one or two places.

UGH Warning... the autoback and quicksave will replace your oblivion ones. Luckily I backed up my documents folder earlier D:

Yeah it uses the same save folder, and the same Oblivion.ini for that matter, so the saves aren't the only problem with running both games. Fortunately I am just playing Nehrim.
