Agreed. You owe them nothing. There are quite a few dogs in my neighborhood that frequently roam loose. 2 in particular have never been on a leash as far as I can see (or in a fenced in area.) If they come into our fenced in area, one of our dogs (and I plan on getting a couple more of that breed) will tear them to shreds. I'd feel absolutely no remorse. I have livestock & the number one danger to them is not coyotes, or foxes, both of which are in our area in large numbers, but rather, roaming dogs. I've seen several cases where 2 or 3 dogs have done 10's of 1000's of dollars in damage in a short time.Yea do NOT pay if its their fence that is the weak link and their dog came into your yard.
Now if your dog got into their yard and did that then i say pay 100%.

Would Home Owner's Insurance cover this?
perhaps a better fence would be the answer?!?
A fence is shared.
Neighboring dogs should be socialized.
fail on both sides of the fence.
a 50/50 split is indeed fair.

Fences aren't shared unless they are right on the property lines. You can have a fence of your own.
