Their desire to seem "exclusive" as Amberclad put it, inconveniences me, the customer. I would have had to read another bill, write another check, etc. at the end of the month. Why would I go to the trouble?

AmEx has the highest vendor fees, that's why so many places don't accept them.

And going to another store isn't an inconvenience?

When you get a little older you may understand that at times principles outweigh convenience.

I can't imagine they're doing it just to seem exclusive.

by the time you reach the register, you're practically almost a customer already.

maybe they've got an exclusive deal with amex or something? /shrug

But Costco will take my visa logo debit card. From the way it sounds, Neiman will not.

Doesn't matter that your debit card has the visa or mastercard logo on it since you're doing a debit transaction.

You didn't want to pay for it their way, you moved on, and they do want your money, but they probably have a deal with the company that gets your money to them. What'd you expect them to do anyway, log into a system they don't use and somehow log a transaction?

It'd be like all those discover people going around thinking they're just as big as visa/mastercard.

EDIT: I really don't see the deal. Its capitalism right? Its not like they even treated you bad, they just couldn't take the type of payment you wanted to use.

I'd have to say 0/5 as well. No 0/10 for you.

Costco will accept a Visa-labeled debit card though ... I use mine there all the time.

Also considering how many people don't use Amex, I think its dumb to make that the only card you accept ... of course I think its dumb to shop at Neiman-Marcus too!

It was a tough decision not to hand over my AmEx after I spent so long there looking at stuff. But I figured since I had to walk all the way across the mall back to the car anyway, I'd just go somewhere that actually appreciates my business.

Neiman's did have some ridiculous stuff in their gift department though. A sculpture of a dog's head made of glass or crystal and smoked black- $7600. Tons of crap like that.

They use AmEx because they're pretentious. I got caught with it when I first shopped there for a simple shirt. Didn't want to use it then but I had to. Their website allows the other major credit cards, though.

Whaa? Another person who lugs around a card they have no intention of using?

As for statements and cheques... for your own convenience, go paperless.

Just seems stupid that they wouldn't accept the two, by far, most widely used credit cards but would accept one that very few people have.

I'd have been with you and went somewhere else.

I'd probably even send them an email from their website and ask why they have that policy and let them know that they just lost you as a potential customer...

The grocery store across the street from my apartment complex doesnt take credit cards at all. Sucks too because one place I spend a fair amount of money, I cant get the rewards of my cash back bonus.

You were on to something, but since you do have an Amex that qualifies you for the whiny bitch award.

If it weren't against the general guidelines to make a parody thread, I would have made one that went like this:

lmao, he sure showed us!
Nieman Marcus customer rant

So, this customer was wandering around our store for an hour and a half. We ended up having the plainclothes security keeping an eye on him; he looked pretty suspicious. Finally, he picked up a vase and brought it to the register. I went through the usual lines that we're supposed to say, "will you be charging it to your N.M. card today? Would you like to apply for one?" He said "no" to each one, so I proceded to ring him up.

Well, then this fool pulls out a VISA card. "I'm sorry sir, we don't accept VISA; we only take cash, check, or AMEX." I don't know how shoppers miss this on the door as they enter (or rather, how they miss the AMEX sign.) Every store I've been to his little decals on the windows of the door with which credit cards they accept.

Well, this guy looks really embarassed now. He pulls out a handful of credit cards and says, "look, I've got a bunch of credit cards. I just don't want to use any of the other ones. I want to use my VISA card and the customer is always right, so ring it up on my VISA card now!" I thought he was going to start stomping his feet on the floor like a little three year old at that point. All the other customers in the area were staring at him. I tried to apologize, but he insisted that if we didn't ring it up on his VISA card, he wasn't going to buy it. If you ask me, all his other cards were probably maxxed out, but he was trying to save face in front of his girlfriend.

Oh well, eventually he gave up and stormed out of our door. He sure showed us!

The OP might want to stay out of Sam's Clubs as well. They won't take his Amex OR Visa credit cards. No matter how "right" he thinks he is.

Do you think they would have just laughed in his face like Peter did in Family Guy if he tried to use his Discover Card?

I have this crazy Idea. You know how when you walk into a store somewhere near the door theres a picture of Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover etc. LOOK AT IT. Dont be a dumb ass and post about something that didn't even inconvenience you because you have an amex and just wanted to be a pain in the ass.
