No. Installing something like the Nero 6 "lite" (NeroExpress) version, will wipe out your "full" Nero 5.x version.

Is Nero Suite 3 sufficient? Or is the full blown version of Nero worth the extra $$$ (however much $$$ that may be) ?

I got this http://www.softwareandstuff.com/SWW12281.html 2-3 weeks ago, didn't realize I wasn't buying the DVD version. Kinda mis-leading on the page saying that it supports Dual Layer DVD-R drives. Oh well, no big loss, just $3.99. Will probably get the Suite 3 from them too, $8 isn't bad if Suite 3 is worth buying.

I could always uninstall version 6 and reinstall version 5.5.

I always using Nero Burning Rom, but just now, as an experiment, I tried Nero Express 5.5. It is obviously dumbed down, but it does work. The only think I really did not like about it is I could not find the option for setting my ISO settings with DVD Video. I prefer to absolute basic ISO settings for high compatibility. I'm not sure if Nero Express was defaulting to this or not. I'm pretty sure when I installed Nero, the default settings were ISO settings which were not basic, but allowed longer file names. With basic DVD video, you don't need longer file names, so I always turn this off for compatibility.

This probably only makes sense to experts. My point is the Express version takes away settings that some people need.

I got the Nero OEM suite 3 for surpluscomputers. com for $7.99 with free shipping. What makes this a real good deal is it includes the DVD encoder and the dolby digital AC3 encoder (2 channel.) The quality of the DVD encoder is excellent. Very fast and allows you to set the maximum data rate and variable compression. The dolby digital encoder is well worth it if you make longer movies. I've made a few 1.5 hour DVDs. If you don't compress the audio (most DVD creators don't have the AC3 encoder), the audio will take up 30% of the disk. This leaves less room for video and consequently more compression needed. This hurts quality. The AC3 encoder compresses this about five times are more and still sounds excellent.

I was able to update this to the latest NeroVision Express by downloading the updates. By the way, finding CD keys for Nero are ridiculously easy.

One final point. I was using mini-DV video from my camcorder. In the encoder, I had to set "upper field first" in the field options. Auto didn't get it quite right. Progressive didn't work either. Also, I don't really like the DVD creator. Ulead MovieMaker 3 is much better with more options, especially with the menus. But the AC3 encoder makes this well worth adding to my computer programs, especially for $8.

Just be sure softwareandstuff actually sends the suite 3 CD. I ordered this from them a while back and they sent the suite 1 instead.

To their credit, they did send a suite 3 CD to replace the suite 1 cd after a phone call.
